Man, I need a trip to Deutchland again. I wonder how much to rent a Porsche over there for five days or so.
Thanks for posting those. Looks awesome.

Default Porsche Museum

Just last week, my wife spoke to Chris at the current museum about our upcoming trip to Germany (first two weeks of July)... He told us that the new museum grand opening is set for Jan 31st. I can't wait!

We will be spending two weeks visiting friends and family all over the country! I'm trying to arrange a factory tour, thus the phone call. The plan is to base ourselves out of Kiserslautern (sp), where I have several friends. I'm definitely making it to Stuttgart (Porsche), and maybe by RUF as well... A trip around the ring is also in the plans!

I'm REALLY excited to be going! The last time I had a trip planned, a motorcycle accident forced cancellation... Hopefully, this time things will go according to plan.

I will have to make this a stop when I go over in June. Looks like all those derivative dollars they made from VW transactions is going somewhere.

Looks awesome - and a bit better than when I was there last summer. Good news, though - if all goes well I'll be back in early July this year...

I had to cancel my trip last summer, the primary purpose was to visit the new museum. IIRC, the original opening date was summer of '07! It ended up working better for me anyway, my oldest son is going to school in Paris this year. Going in March to spend a week with him, then a week in Zuffenhausen!! Only about a 5 hour drive (Paris to Stuttgart). Unfortunately, I will be driving an economy class rental car on the Autobahn

Default If you are going.....

Factory tour is a must. If you are a PCNA member in the states, they can get you contacts for tour, book well in advance. If all else fails, show up and see if there are no shows. They use to meet in old museum in the morning for the tours, hang around and they would call out names for English and German speaking tours, not sure where they will meet now.

Parking is/was on the street (good luck with that) or up the hill in the employee parking area / garage. Buzz the guard at the toll gate when you pull in and tell them you are there for the tour. Maybe the new museum has a parking lot now.

And not to be sacrilegious on this forum, but if you have the time, the BMW (Munich 2-hr drive) and MBenz (also in Stuttgart) museums are also worth a stop for gear heads.

And by all means drive the ring!

^ Nice Gulfstream Barney, is it yours?

Does anyone know if RUF offer a tour of their facility in Pfaffenhausen? I would love to see the BMW museum in Munich too and it would be a nice stop on the way.

That looks like one hell of an improvement from when I was last there....with the little museum that did not hold very many cars...

I will have to make a return trip some day... **sigh**

Cheers,

Mike
