Default Sport seats paid for all of this...

This website is great! I sold my sport seats to a fellow Rennlister and funded my entire interior project. ($2,750) My goal was to take some weight out, refresh the old carpet and keep the sound quality intact (engine noise and stereo sound) Overall I'm happy with the outcome. The car is noticeably lighter, more responsive and more fun to drive. I deleted the rear seats, rear shelf/speakers, factory door panels, side panels and all sound insulation. (Below is all the stuff I put back in) The hardest part was figuring out how to keep out engine and road noise without adding too much weight. It took some trial and error with different materials but I finally figured it out. The new engine sound pad ended up weighing a total of 4lbs and keeps out as much sound as the factory stuff. I sacrificed a bit for floorboard material weight (dynomat) but the weight was less than old stuff. All and all the car is just a quite as before and only has about 10-13 lbs of total sound insulation. The stereo is a digital only unit. (Lightweight since there is no CD player, 1.7 lbs) Surprisingly the sound is great without the rear speakers.

Below are some pictures, this site helped out a ton with this project. If anyone is curious I am mechanically inept and this project was pretty easy. My only suggestion would be to take your time.

AppBiz RS Perlon Charcoal Carpet Kit
BK Seat Mounts
Recaro Sliders
Recaro Pole Positions
Polk Carbon Fiber 6.5 speakers
Rennline Pedal Set
Rennline Track Mats
AppBiz RS Door Panels
Sound Insulation http://www.lobucrod.com/
RS Shifter
Leather to recover center console
Sufix black leather dye for side posts
Dynomat for floorboards
Blaupunkt Digital Only Receiver (1.7 lbs)

Before pics...It wasn't easy selling these seats!!!

(spray pained pedal mat black)

(this was my one mistake, (cut the tunnel too low)

(Seats were easy to install, BK mounts and Recaro Sliders required no drilling)

Wrapped center console in leather)

(dyed handbrake black)

Nice work!! Very inspiring.

Unfortunately, I always feel like I'm already borrowing funds from my sport seats that I haven't sold yet!

Wow! Nice work. I like everything about it, except maybe the door speaker grills (I say spray 'em black)

I am in the camp that would love some hardbacks, but I just never see spending that kind $$.

P.S. I love your wheels

So, how much total weight did this project wind up reducing your car?

Gorgeous car! Ditto on the speaker grilles, but I love the color of your wheels. Normally I don't like dark color wheels on midnight blue, but that looks fantastic! Do you know the exact color of the wheels?

Not sure, the sport seats with sliders were about 120 lbs or so. I imagine that the new Recaros with sliders are probably half that. The rear speaker/shelf/seats/side panels and insulation was surprisingly heavy. My best guess is that she is down at least 100lbs.

*I was at a driver skills day Saturday and the car felt night and day different. Amazing what a difference weight makes.

When I replaced my sport seats with recaros, the bathroom scale told me I only saved 24lbs per seat. The PPs are light but the side mounts and sliders add quite a bit of weight back in.

Wow, you've been busy. Now is a good time to go rob a bank -- since your fingerprints are all worn off taking all of that glue out of your car

I did that once, my thumbs burn just thinking about it..

Very nice job. Paint those speaker grilles and it's near perfect. Makes me want to sell the hardbacks in the 97 and get PPs, RS door panels, and RS carpets. Maybe I'll get a chance to see it in the spring.

Not the best picture, but it should give you an idea of what it should look like.
