Jonathan,

Yes, I mentioned sportscarled.com in my post. Porscheleds.com was changed to sportscarled.com Unfortunately, I don't see that their lights come with separate #74 bases. Perhaps someone who has a set can comment. I sent an email to the company, but no reply yet.

This is cool- but being the total novice here, how about a complete rundown in one post as to what's needed, quantities, cost, any retrofitting if needed, issues with installation, etc. I think there would be a LOT of people that would like to do this if there were a complete installation/product sourcing guide available. no worries if it's too much to do- just a suggestion.

Guys, I would certainly assist with putting together a full LED replacement bulb set recommendation together once I get it all sorted out. But I'm needing some help first.

My biggest issue right now is finding a #74 bulb base that uses the T5 wedge bulbs. I was successful in using the one piece units from SuperBright LED's
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/i...B8.4D,21,4333:.
But there are limited choices with using these bulbs. Most importantly, they don't come in warm white, which I know a lot of guys want. The other reason is there are a lot more options using the T5 bulb types (colors and lumens) with the #74 base. I know this because I have a few #74 bases from my project years ago. But now I'm having a hard time finding them. The ones for AutoLumination don't fit.

I've also replaced the cabin lights, brake lights, license plate lights, backup lights. Once I get it all figured out, I'll share what I think works best.

Marc

Well, I still can't find an easy replacement for these #74 bases so I modified the ones I purchased to fit. Not ideal solution. Maybe someone else can help me locate a truly plug-n-play replacement base for these instrument bulbs.

I also just purchased some more bulbs for gauges and other things. Hopefully I'll have something more to show soon.

Have you guys tried the T5 base/bulbs from aliexpress? I've ordered stuff from them before and they usually arrive in about 3 weeks from China. Dirt cheap and only order ones with shipping.

Search around for T5s.

I'm not a big fan of a lot of these China made brands - poor quality fit and unreliable. But let me know how it goes with you. Maybe you'll have some success.

I'm also trying to utilize the T5 wedge bulb in the #74 bases since there are a lot of options for bulbs with this setup. The one you posted is an all-in-one bulb base with limited options - only comes in white, red, green red. But which color white is this - cool white, warm white, etc? Makes a big difference.

I also think you chose the B8 light bulb style which uses the 8.5 base. Again, I'm not sure it would fit in our cars. I was successful with the B8.4D bulb-base one unit piece from SuperBrightLEDs. But they also have limited bulb types and colors.

There is a big difference between cool and warm white. Think of cool white as a flourescent type white. And warm white is a LED type white.

When I installed cool white, the gauges look almost blue. The warm white made it closer to the factory almost yellow. But not quite. There is a slight greent tint.

Well, I'm at a loss now.

These #74 bases I bought are just not that feasible. They don't fit inside our gauges without modification. Here are the bases I bought (pic #1).

And here are the bases I bought years ago that work easily (pic #2 & pic #3). They work beautifully, but I just can't seem to find them anywhere. Any one care to help me find them or something similar? They have an embossed "S" on the back, which makes me think they were possibly made by Samsung - just a guess.

Could the S be for Sylvania rather than Samsung?

Actually, I was thinking Sylvania but wrote Samsung. Yes, that's a possibility. Any idea where to find these bases?
