It fits directly onto the twist lock #74 base which I got from ebay. The LED originally came with the #74 base was not very bright. So I tossed them and fit these new 74-xHP3.
I got the cool white one, but warm white and other colors are also available.
In the attached pic below, the leftmost is the OEM bulb. The middle is the single LED /w the #74 twist lock base I got from ebay. On the right is the 74-xHP3. Just pull out the single LED and insert in the 74-xHP3. Then just install them into the gauge.[/QUOTE]

Can you say which twist lock bases are compatible with the Porsche instruments? For example is T1.5x compatible?

These are the LEDs with the base I bought from ebay a long time ago.

However, the site now says it comes with SMD LEDs which sound like the 6 lumens LED that are brighter than the one I bought a long time ago.
You can try the ones on ebay. If it is not bright enough, then order the 74-xHP3.

Drove the car again today in overcast sky. The LEDs are blue, not super blue, but a light blue. And it is bright! So much so that I have to dim them. But that also dim the rest of the lights in the car. I may go ahead and get the warm white to which dominant wavelength is 3300 vs 8500nm for the cool white.

Looking forward to see the results of warm white LED. I am often too lazy to perform any mods to the car, but this one looks quite exciting, inexpensive and reversable. Perhaps someone can work out a group buy and make it a kit for all those interested. I am sure it would sell like hot cakes!

FYI, while it is an inexpensive mod, getting the tach out can be a PITA!

PorscheLEDs already have them in a kit.
