993 windshield expert in Seattle area?
I saw it coming toward me, but only realized what had just happened after it (a pebble kicked up by a freight truck) had struck my windshield right above the driver's spot, about an inch away from the edge.
That pebble had my name on it: it bounced under a pickup truck and then up onto my windshield.
So now there is a nice 1.5-cm diameter ring/spoke crack spot on the glass.
Looks like this is one that will eventually need replacement. Anyone in Seattle area with suggestions of local experts? Maybe they can save it, but I don't know....
Also, any suggestions on OEM vs any other replacement options? Seems like the posts are saying that the OEM glass is "soft" and prone to pitting and chipping.
Thanks!

Jim,
Sorry to hear about the rock strike. Your insurance should take care of a complete replacement if you haven't had one done recently. I've used Euro Glass 7502 159th Pl NE # 2 Redmond, WA 98052
(425) 883-2989 in the past when they removed and replaced both front and rear windshields on my SC for repaint work. You could also give Mark Israel a call at EuroTech (425) 823-4282 and ask him who they use besides ordering from the dealer. Sekurit, Sigla (German subsidiary of Pilkington), and USA's PPG all provide glass to Porsche, which seem to be softer, however it may simply be the rake angle of our windshields and height above the road surface that our cars sit that contribute to the rapid accumulations of rock dings. If you need get one from the dealer, parts manager Rocky Seebrooke at Barrier Porsche is a good guy.

OEM seems to be the only option these days.
Here's one of the least expensive I've seen for OEM:

Thanks for all the Seattle and other answers. Will check out those folks.
dutchcrunch: Will I need a sunny day to do the injection repair? I read that it needs to cure in the sunlight....might be a few weeks away in Seattle, by the time we match up our weather and my schedule.

These windshields are made in pretty much the same glass factory with different manufacturer's logos etched into them. Be careful with injection repair especially if dirt has had a chance to migrate into the opening as filling up the crack may seal the dirt, accentuating the damage site.

chip repair
no need to wiat for sunny day. it is cured with ultr violet light and sets quick.
as Harlan says about dirt, put a piece of tape over chip to keep dirt out if you can.
take it to safelite glass. i have done three repairs to my window with them and its has held up fine.
now lets be real, this is a permanent repair and it will be hardly noticeable , but will be evident if you look for it.
this will keep the damge from progressing and give you time to find the rite glass and man for the job.
if you have full coverage the repair will be free. no i do not know how that wil affect your replacement down the road.
i personnaly would rather have the repair done and replace the glass at my last option if it were me. as long as its not in your direct line of site you will be fine. tell them to show you the sample repair at safelite. they will give you credit toward a windshield should the repair ever fail for life.
also if its a circle type bulls eye you might not need to repair at all and it holds fine if you would rather wait till you find an installer and have the insurance foot the bill.
either way make sure you find the correct person/ installer for your new window, and before they start do a walk around the car just like you would when you rent a car and show them the condition of the car that way if something is wrong you can point the finger with no misunderstanding who did what.
these days its the consumer that must do the reseach to find the correct man for the job as not all installer are up to the job.
porsche installs are rare to glass installers, most cars do not use the rubber seal.

It's been a few years since the last post; are the above recommendations still good sources to check out for the Seattle area? Any new ones? Finally got a car, but it's leaking on the passenger side floor and I'm showing some bubbling paint as well.
Also since my windshield channel needs work/paint, anyone have good shops they'd recommend? I have been talking to Haury's in Lake City (owner is a BMW-CCA guy, also one of my early DE instructors), but am open to checking out other venues..
Thanks!!
