Default MWF availability?

Just planning a clutch change for next winter (hopefully). I've got 68k on it and have a small issue although I'm hoping a new slave cylinder resolves it. Should I go for a new clutch I was thinking that the MWF might be a good compromise as the DMF is expensive and heavy and the LWF might cause too much noise and possibly annoying stalling. Are these still available and from where? Thanks.

Andial used to sell a mid weight fly wheel. I know they closed down some of their facilities but you might search around the 'net. I think they still sell parts. I don't know if the mwf will reduce noise however. Stalling, it might help there.

Matt,

The MWF's were only made by Andial and they have no plans to make anymore of them, according to a conversation I had back in October.

Currently, the choices are limited to either the OEM DMF or the RS LWF package.

Thanks. Perhaps I will just resurface the stock DMF if that is acceptable with this style of flywheel.

Matt,

My Ruf BTR comes with a Ruf medium weight flywheel. You might call Ruf at Dallas and see if they can source you one.

Good luck.

I wonder if a DMF can be lightened?

You can resurface the DMF no problem.

Depends on where you are, when I did the clutch job on my 968 about 18 mos. ago I asked 5 or 6 machine shops in the area if they would resurface it (also DMF) but none of them would touch it. I would have had to send it out to get it done. Wound up having a heavy-duty buffing job done by one of the local Porsche indy's, worked fine.

Thanks Roland. Does anyone know if this is how all Andial mwf's were assembled? All in two pieces (attached to rs lightweight)? Or was there also a 1 piece mwf unit from Andial?

Thanks. I did see one pic of the Andial MWF but it is hard to tell if it was built that way. I am thinking that it was of a different design. It would be good to get an expert opinion on this ring as I would bid if it will work and the price doesn't get out of hand.

FYI, Roland is good people, so bid with confidence. Hopefully he will get back to you with the info you need as he is acquainted with some experts (re: ex Andial employees).
