Porsche's RS components were designed for and unique to these cars. In the majority of cases, These "RS" parts are the factory items specific to these cars and while there are some "RS-like" parts, the vast majority were made for Porsche A.G. or Porsche Motorsports; Germany.

Now,......some of these factory RS parts are available to the aftermarket supply channels, but....they are all made by the same vendors (Sachs & Heigo, for example) that provide such items to the factory.

Got questions or need further clarification???? Call me,........
Just out of curiosity - are "RS" parts warranted the same way as "ordinary" Porsche parts? I understand (though I have no 1st-hand knowledge) that factory parts designed for racing applications carry no warranty (true / false?)

Jscott, I am slightly confused with your "clarity", the 993RS is what the GT3 is to the 997 today..huh?....RS was a far more specialised homologation car, having driven 997GT3 it has a great engine, but is fairly close to other models in the range....the 993RS is far closer to the cup and RSR version than the 997GT3 is to 997 race versions.....don't you have Sunroofs, electric windows and lay-Z boy recliners in US spec GT3???

I was simply trying to make a generic point... there are no "RS" parts... only an RS car....
What I said was: the 993RS is "much like" the 997GT3 meaning they are both more track oriented models…. Ill leave the debate of which is better or more track oriented to someone else

Welllllll,..actually, there are,...

If you look carefully at an RS, you will see a LOT of engine, transmission, chassis, brake and body parts that are specific to the RS and not used on regular production versions, nor RSR's. There are other qualities such as the use of AWD, seam-welded chassis that are specific to these cars but the special components are an integral part of what the RS is and thankfully, some of these are still available. It bears mentioning that the inventory of RS parts at Porsche is rapidly shrinking and when they are depleted, they will no longer be available.

The ROW side of the PET shows some of these special components, too. Most of this applies to the 964RS, too.

ARD,

Some RS parts carry the same warranty but other items such as suspension components, engine parts and transmission parts naturally carry no warranty due to how most of these things are used,.. .

I know its just semantics... but there are no "RS" parts that were designed for the regular 993.. Only parts off of the 993RS that can be used on a regular 993... Just like I can take the brakes or seats off a 993 turbo and put on my 993....

I'll quietly go back to my corner now....

Correct and the front RS rotor isn't the same as the 9993tt either

4 of the 6 arms here are RS, how do you know?
1) part #
2) RS castings has a blue dot
3) RS rubber parts have a green dot

some parts you have to know what you are looking for

part # referenced from PET

besides parts some are just shaped differently, RS part on the bottom

Most RS parts end in .80 or .81

green dots, part 3 ends .81

hard to see here burt part #s and obviously shape(RS on left)

Thanks for all the information so far. It makes sense now. I particularly like the "buyer beware" comment; which in truth was one of the underlying concerns behind the initial question.

Bill, your photos really help; especialy explaining the color codes and the model numbers.

I assume not every part designed for a 993RS can be used on a stock 993. If this assumption is correct, how does the average enthusiast know which parts are interchangeable? Do the PET codes state which parts can be used on both cars?

Clubsport1, when you say the rear brake calipers are "specific to a 993 RS" are you saying they would not fit a stock 993 without making other modifications as well? How would I know this, if say a set was offered for sale on Ebay?

Bill, what is the difference between the RS front rotor and the 993TT front rotor? Are the calipers identical (front)? How about the pads?

The 993Rs is a one piece, the 993tt is a 2 pice w/ hat. Both are the same size and are interchangeable, no one buys the 993RS oem versions(except maybe concours nuts).

Do you happen to have a picture of the two?
