Question Fuel filter: Change based on time?

I have put less than 1K miles on 1997 in 3 years. Is it necessary, a good idea or what to change fuel filter based on time and not mileage.

I change oil and brake fuild yearly regardless of mileage.

I rarely change the oil based on time or mileage. I always send in a sample for testing to Blackstone Labs (no affiliation) and changed based on their report.
Hope this helps,

Not sure if they can test fuel from the fuel filter...anyways I would change at a minimum oil every year, brake fluid every two years, fuel filter every three years, and tranny oil every 5 years. My opinion is just that, no basis in fact nor from an Porsche manual (other than the first two).

I would also suggest that if you only drive you car 1000 miles in 3 years, you also use a fuel stabilizer and check for oil leaks, these cars like to be driven often and hard. Seals tend to dry up and start leaking without the proper use, nevermind fuel varnishing in the fuel lines, fuel pump, injectors, etc.

Cheers,

Mike

I do oil once a year w/both filters, brake fluid every two w/ fresh fuel filter and tranny every three.

IMHO.....It never hurts to keep fresh filters on any Porsche..............ZP44

Following is a schedule I have followed with other cars (and will with my new 993): This assumes that mileage limits are not hit first.

Oil, filters, brake/clutch flush - every year
Automatic tranny, air filter - every 3 years
Fuel Filter, manual tranny - every 5 years

I figure a fuel filter is really more about mileage than time, but still could get some corrosion if there is moisture in the fuel. My 97 has about 26k miles and it has the original fuel filter (which I am replacing this week). I'm planning to cut the old one open just because I'm curious how it will look.

I cut on open once that had 40,000 miles on it...very clean!
