Rattling noise from left rear that I can't figure out?

Hi Folks,
Some very insightful comments above. Localizing a rattle can be frustrating. My car rattles a lot until I empty the door pockets, and glovebox and pick up any coins or other debris in the cabin. Seems to quiet things down quite a bit.

A LHS rear (driver's side) rattle for me was the stop hat on the strut mount coming loose due to the nut+washer securing it to the shock rod being insufficient. The stop hat had about 2" of play and would bang up and down on the shock mount (between the nut/washer hanging on for dear life), especially over bumps.
