Eric, if you are adding HP you will want to do something with the carrier.
The OE turbo carrier is a stronger piece.

How involved is removing the engine carrier? Once you jack the engine can you remove it or do you need to drop the engine? Has anyone priced the RS/turbo carriers?

I'm told it is not trivial. You need to remove the crankshaft pulley, which takes a special tool to counterhold (or you can use the in gear, foot on brake technique). Then it is straight-forward R&R, you don't need to drop the engine (though that would make it very easy).

Having a welder reinforce the ends or using the Rennline kit is pretty cost effective.

Thanks Don. Thats more than I want to deal with for a street car, especially since I don't yet have a garage to work in at this point.

Am I correct that the RS mounts and the Wevo black pillows do not require reinforcement of the carrier for street/occational DE use?

Another question about the Wevos, when the pillows wear out can you just replace them and effectively have new mounts? If this is the case that is a significant future savings.

From what i have read strenghtening of the engine carrier is recommended if one is installing stiffer mounts (RS or wevo). Am I way of here ?

Took a look at my mounts the other day and found out that if i am going to replace them and strengthen the carrier i will have to invest in new bolts and nuts for the cat, heat deflector for the cat, probably would be best to change the O2 sensors "while I'm in there", and the the rear bumper supports

Akerlie, from what I can tell, the semi-solid RS and Wevo mounts may or may not require reinforcement of the carrier, while solid mounts certainly do.

The carrier reinforcement is inexpensive and very stout. I'll be changing mine when I do the mounts. When I started the 964 thread, I had no idea how many people's mounts were as bad as mine... fortunately, the engine stays in the car if the stock mounts fail. All who have changed them have posted very positive driving and shifting improvements. Some of whom have tried to improve shifting with fluid changes. Maybe we're on to something here.....

My $0.02:

Solid Mounts = Reinforced carrier
Wevo/RS Mounts + Street Driven Car = Standard carrier fine (inspect yearly)
Wevo/RS Mounts + Track driven car = Reinforced carrier appropriate (inspect frequently)

That is my understanding, yes. I've been running wevo blues and hard track use on a stock carrier.

I don't know, but knowing Hayden, would think so. I doubt the pillows are going to wear out - as opposed to the stock hydraulic mounts which do.

Could everybody please leave the Crank pulley alone?

No you do not need to rmove the crank pulley to remove the engine stand.

Bare in mind that to reinforce the engine stand, you have your dual coils to displace.

same engine mounts on C2 &C4
Not the same engine mounts, C2 mounts are gel filled, C4 and turbo are not.
C2 mounts have upward dampening, C4 do to a lesser extent (only rubber) because of front transaxle combo.
C4 mounts work on C2, I chose this alternative.
