Default AX classing questions (track width and LSD)

I'm going to do my first AX since moving to San Diego a few months ago and I'm filling out the class sheet and have 2 questions:

I have a C4S with PSS10's, upgraded sway bars, 285 rear tires and Aero Kit II.

1. I am charged 2 points if my track width is "over 2 inches." I think what I remember is the width different is 22mm per side totaling to 44mm which equates to 1.73 inches; however, this might not be the track width and just the increased fender width.

2. I am charged 2 points for Limited Slip Differential. I was under the impression that a stock C4S all come with ABD but the LSD is still an option. Is this correct? If so, then I don't have LSD and don't need to add these points.

Can anyone give me accurate information please?

Thanks!

Looks like you will take the following points, assuming standard street tires and stock engine:

Shocks/springs 2pts
Sway bars 2pts
Rear spoiler 2pts
285 tires 2pts

LSD (maybe) 2pts

So, if you have no LSD, then you fall into NS. Otherwise it looks like you fall into NP. Either way, you don't need to worry about track width just because it's an "S". Sorry I can't provide definitive info on the ABD/LSD issue.

Your car would be in ASP in a normal scheme of things. In the club you are running... I'm not sure. You can check whethr you hve LSD by looking at the option sticker under the hood.

Adam,
(I'm assuming you meant PCA AX in this response.....)

Unfortunately, the PCA rules screw us C4S owners..... You are in NP. Yep, N-Prepared. Running against the guys with race tires, cages, etc... But there are a few of us, so you won't be alone!

LSD was standard on C4S.

I'll feed you some of the info I was trading with another C4S owner.... (PCA words between the *****'s and my commentary as well.

This is what I read in the Rules Changes Summary:
http://www.pcasdr.org/img/pdf/genera...ned%202008.pdf
pg 8
*****
Question:
What belts/harnesses do I need for Time trial or DE?
Answer:
Stock belts are acceptable to use in Time trial & DE if your car is in the Stock or Street Stock category. You will need 5 or 6-point harnesses if your car is classified in Prepared or higher. Remember some cars like 993 C4S are in the Prepared class in 100% stock condition.
*****
Which means no DE for us unless we install 5/6 point harnesses. (I wouldn't want to run time trials w/o 5/6 points anyways.)

pg 16
*****
• Turbo-look cars must take all penalty points for modifications beyond that of the
base model car. For example a 993 C4S must take points for increase of track,
increase in tire width, LSD, non-stock brakes, MO30 suspension and non-stock
aerodynamic device.
*****
That's 6x2=12 points for stock......

That 2nd statement is also here on page 8.
http://zone8.pca.org/rules/2008/Z8Rules2008.pdf
*****
The points assessments are in this document . From page 9 of the rules:
O. Increase in track of over 2": 2 points
*****
(that's 2.0" and 2 points) We are 2.1" according to Steve Grosskemper (local PCA tech guru). You can run with 996 wheels with slightly different offsets which pull you back under this limit, but I'm not sure with everything else we get dinged for its worth it.

Interestingly, perhaps I don't need to take a hit for the PSS9s (nor your PSS-10s) possibly and my lowering, as I previously thought (M & Q). But, if you had a stock C4S I believe, you might... (Y)

*****
M. Non-stock shock absorbers with remote or external reservoirs. 2
Q. Non-stock springs/torsion bars and/or any suspension changes to lower a car that require machining, welding, etc. 2
Y. Adding a US specification MO30 suspension package in its entirety with original factory parts (at the factory or after the fact). 2
*****

I guess I'll see you out there on 12/13 at Qualcomm! Its the yearly "other car" AX, so it won't be fully Porsche, but fun anyways. I'll probably still run the Porsche.....driving the Civic just isn't the same... There are a number of people from this forum board you will find there.

Cheers,
Keith

Thanks for the replies guys. The C4S's really do get screwed (or I'm just encouraged to continue to develop the car within the class )!

So let me see if I get this straight:

- Shocks/springs = 2pts
- Sway bars = 2pts
- Rear spoiler = 2pts
- 285 tires = 2pts
- Increased track width = 2pts
- Non stock brakes = 2pts
- LSD = 2pts [What if this is not functioning, are you still docked the points?
TOTAL = 14 points!

Keith, I'll be glad to meet you at the event! The only person I know is Craig F. who will be showing me the ropes of the SDR region. Thanks for all your specific info, very informative. However, it doesn't help the fact that I now can't do a DE...WTF!

That totally doesn't seam fair! Up here the PCA puts them all in one class. I race stock, in the C4, with all other 993's sans turbo & even a few boxters (hate them).

All AWD 993's have ABD & LSD.

Despite having 20hp less (1995) & weighing more, I still managed to beat out all the other 993's this year!

Your car would be ASP under the SCCA rules, but it looks like the PCA has a whole different system. Looks like others above are familiar with those rules.
