175+ mph on A9 from Nuremberg to Munich and on A7 to Stuttgart, several times last year. One time the alternator belt went. Made sure nothing else was wrong and went right back on the road on battery only for anothyer 50 miles to my destination. Could have gone 50 more propably as the car started right back up afterwards.
Back then I knew, I purchased a good car. Next time I'll take a video if I have the right person riding shotgun. I always wanted one for my files.

Anyone out there ever entered any of these Nevada events?
It's looking like the answer is no. I've not done it but have several friends who have. All said it was a total gas. It used to be pretty much an open event until a guy in a stock Testarossa blew a tire at speed and rolled himself into a little ball. Now they enforce classes and you have to have some safety gear and experience to really let go. It's on my bucket list.

Finally an response I was looking for....though it has been interesting reading about the high speed experiences here, I was seriously looking for input regarding the Nevada events. I can't stay off their website, thinking about entering this event...if nothing else, the Friday/Sat high speed opportunity on a closed public highway...legal no less. And now, getting excited about the September Classic, 90 miles, target speed, max "tech speed", team entries for 7 cars...sounds outstanding....Looks like all I need is a fire extinguisher installed and of course the car in good running order.....and someone to take the right hand seat, instructing me to pick it up or slow it down....very interested in this event.

Was hoping someone on here had actually participated.
Thank you

162 mph in a 993 RS on an disused runway, speedo was higher, but this was lazer speed trap verification.
The car pulled really well through the first 5 gears, but either gearing or lack of torque, I was surprised at how the mph really failed to accumulate in 6th, it really was like hitting a wall!

This was a small spoiler car with 298 bhp and 260 ft/lb from a Din 70020 rolling road.

Porsche claim 172mph for 993RS, it would have to be a very long road to get up to that speed and I seriously doubt a CS/RSR spoilered car would get there with standard 300bhp?

I hit an indicated 180 on a local deserted expressway last fall in my supercharged 993. One of my best friends was driving an E60 M5 that I owned at the time. We started at 80 where the M5 and 993 were side by side. We stayed side by side until around 140 where the M5 absolutely walked away from me. It stayed ahead until its limiter kicked in around 165. At that point I slowly reeled him in and passed him at an indicated 175. The tires are taller than stock, so I could have been going faster than 180 at terminal velocity in the 993.

On a side note, the M5 was an amazing interstate car. You could do 150 on a daily basis where you would do 100 in most cars.

We swapped cars on the way home. Here my buddy Scott is driving the 993. The first pic is taken from the M5. He liked it so much, he picked up a mint 964 and became a Rennlist addict.

Search "rufracer". Roland's done these on a fairly regular basis.

Fun to see this thread revived. Great stories! I liked the good old days here in Cali when the CHP had to tail you for several miles to clock your speed. Now they sit under a overpass and hit you with the radar coming down a hill.

I can just imagine the look on the officers face when he (or she) reads 150+ on the radar screen!

I am still waiting for my perfect moment to let her go.

OK, I'll play. I've had both 993s over 260KMH (161MPH) indicated on a couple of occasions. I won't say where or when but I will say that a strong crosswind gust at that speed was enough to scare the **** out of me. Gotta say this is one area where my 02 996 felt way better.

Default Not saying it was me

175 on the speedo-the chip raises the limit a bit-done several times over the years
when no one was around-then backed off as the road was about to curve-
going to the autobahn in late spring to do it legal-will fill in the blanks then

Got caught once doing 128 mph just south of Morristown NJ by un- marked tropper that I passed!.
Cost me 5k in lawyer fees etc. just to keep my liscence. Had to perform several weekends of community service and almost was kicked out of NJM insurance. Learned my lesson the hard way (in the wallet)-keep that stuff for driver's ed on the track.

Good Luck

I made one quick burst to 145ish on an empty highway. Its easy to see that one wrong move would be disastrous at that speed. I just don't enjoy driving very fast on the highways as it takes too much concentration and is hardly relaxing. I thought the top speed was around 172 on our cars?
