C2S vs. C4S
I'm sure it has been hashed and rehashed and posthashed to death, but I'd like to get the wisdom of the collective brain trust on the relative benefits of either the 2 or 4 wheel drive cars. And the downside, too.
I will not be driving anywhere that there might eb snow or too much rain, so traction is not a huge concern.
Thoughts?

Here's why I chose a 2S:
1. Driving dynamics of 2WD (traction not an issue for me either as mineis a nice weather toy)
2. Fewer 2S made than 4S, so it's nice to have something a little more rare. (Mkt price seems to be taking this into account more and more.
3. I like the standard cosmetic features on the '2S' quite a bit-- split rear grill, special grained leather on doors and dash, carrera 's' insignia on tach, alu-look shifter, e brake and door sills etc.
Can't go wrong either way, but that's why I went for the '2S'

Collective wisdom ...buy what YOU like ...both cars will serve you well.
If this is a daily driver then find the BEST car you can afford... NB, C2S or C4S with around 40K on the clock and service history.
Figure out what is on your must have list. For me it was black interior.
Figure out what is on you "no way" list. For me it was beige interior and Red exterior (which I have now come to like).
Test drive a couple, get a PPI, buy it, and ENJOY it....and read rennlist daily to see what you need to upgrade!
If you want to pay a premium for low mileage, remember that that premium goes away if you actually drive the car. (30K seems to be the magic number – which was the same 7 years ago when I was looking)
I wanted an Arena Red C4S with an Aero kit and Black interior…I ended up with the black interior that’s it..and have loved my car for the 7 years I have had it. Do I still want Arena Red…Yes. Have I seen one with black interior..maybe 1 or 2 online in 7 years…..

I am a fan of simpler and lighter, thus a 1997 2wd base car with LSD was what I was looking for at the time...
As for C2S vs C4S, notwithstanding the rarity of the "2S". the C4S actually has better goodies like the TT brakes.

Traction isn't an issue? When you drive a Porsche traction is always an issue if you DRIVE it. The weight difference is about 150lbs. I owned a 996 C4 and I feel my 993 C4 drives a lot better. It feels a lot lighter in the front then the 996 did. It doesn't want to push as much. This is just MHO but my MHO is all I care about since it's my money I spent. Drive them both then buy what you like. Good luck with your find.

hint: search the archives with the words racetrack advantage and you'll find some threads.
My humble opinion is that the 993/996 AWD system is really just a foul-weather system and isn't worth the weight penalty on the track. However, with a TT it's a bit different. For driving in rain or snow, the AWD is nice.
