Default How do you close your hood?

I've always closed the hood by pressing down on the hood badge. I read somewhere here that closing the hood by pressing down on the hood badge can cause the badge to become concave and eventually ruin it. Since I just put on a new silver hood badge I was wondering if I've been closing my hood wrong after all these years.

Has anyone had a problem with closing their hood this way?

I'm at work without the manual, but I seem to remember it saying to place your hands in the corners and push. Having said that I usually use the crest-but I do have an inner liner for more support.

I press down on the hood just below the badge. I feel that the hood flexes too much when pressing on the badge.

I never thought about it before either ... until I spent $ for a new silver badge! I always pushed down on the badge to avoid fingerprints on my hood.

I push with both hands a few inches away from the hood badge.

This is what I have always done. I believe you are NOT suppose to close it any other way, risk of creating "dimples" in the metal...so i have been told...YMMV

My car was used for the inspection guinea pig at one of Tony Callas' Rennsport 993 tech sessions, and one of the first things Tony noted was that my hood badge was flat, the result of my closing the hood by pushing on the badge. Tony's recommended method was to push with both hands, one on each front corner of the hood.

I since got a new badge, but the fit wasn't quite as good as the old one (?), so I bumped out the concavity in the original one and put it back on.

I think that is the Porsche recommended procedure from the owners manual.

The answer is: You push down on the crest...

This is per the "instructional video" (actually pretty campy, but cool to have) which came with my car (not kidding...it was passed down to me from the original owner).

You can view it here (and also learn some other little secrets about out 993's): http://www.coochas.com/porsche/Resources/993-Rome.wmv

I do the same... but honestly, I pop the hood about once a year.

I gently use my fists on the exteme lower corners. I have found my knuckles leave much less of a smudge mark than finger tips or the "heel" of my hand.

Im positive the original 993 Porsche instructional video says to push down hood using crest. But I also do using the corners too.

Well, I know now not to slam it, at least...unlike the first time I closed the hood (when I first picked up the car three years ago)...

The agreed method for 968s is to drop it from 12"

For the 993, I push just below the badge. I think on the badge might dent it in over time, & I thought the corners might bow it over time. I reasoned that being as close to the latch with the pressure I applied would be the best.
