How do you close your hood?

The answer is: You push down on the crest...
This is per the "instructional video" (actually pretty campy, but cool to have) which came with my car (not kidding...it was passed down to me from the original owner).
You can view it here (and also learn some other little secrets about out 993's): http://www.coochas.com/porsche/Resources/993-Rome.wmv

I have the original 48 page showroom booklet for the 993 from 1995, and the video completes it!
Yes, in the video it shows pushing down on the crest. I think the manual says to push down in the corners, but I have been pushing down below the crest, between the crest and the edge. I use the "heel" of my hand.

The badge will go flat in time if you use it to close the lid, and using knuckes has got to be an invitation for dimples. Best method I've found is using the knife edge of your palm, (the fleshy part), one on each corner of the hood at the front edge. If you leave a smudge then just wipe off with a little detail spray. A far better alternative than a dimple or flat badge.

I stand in front of badge-turn around bend my knees and use heel of hand in front of badge-push down till you here the click-I grew up around Porsche's, that is the way I was told from a young lad-it will not dent the hood. The crest will break sometime in the near future if you use it a lot. Even my old Porsche dealer said not to use the crest. Been working for me for over 14 years. Go figure!

I used to use the badge until it flew off driving one day. I'm not sure that it is related to how I closed the hood, but I don't use that method any more. I just close it from the corners and carry a microfiber to wipe off the prints

I've been told by Holt to close it with the corners. Then, I was told by EPE to use the badge. I now push gently under the badge and then wipe any prints. I have very dry hands and they usually don't leave prints, but I'd rather leave prints than dents.

The agreed method for 968s is to drop it from 12"
For the 993, I push just below the badge. I think on the badge might dent it in over time, & I thought the corners might bow it over time. I reasoned that being as close to the latch with the pressure I applied would be the best.
