Default "varioram" on some intakes, any significance?

I've looked at several 96 and 97 cars (non-turbos), and it seems like some have the word "varioram" cast in the intake and others do not. Is this just a random thing or is there any significance?. I was thinking maybe different part suppliers or something. I've seen both 96's and 97's with and without.

Also, I am new to this sight and I've seen a couple people talking about searching the archieves. I know how to do a search, but is there a special place to search the "archieves" where additional history can be found?

I presume it was simply a mid-year change on Porsche’s part, maybe to impart a bit of flair on the manifold.

Archive just refers to the vast trove of info accessed through a 'search'.

mid year change.... Early varioram did not have the name cast in the intake. Strange that a '97 does not have it. This change occured mid '96 production year.

The ones that say Varioram are slower. All that extra weight...

The Logo "varioram" in the intake indicates cheaper casting used by Porsche as part of their cost reduction program.

My theory is they have a bin of parts along the production line, just depends on which intake that guy happended to grab out of the bin when he put the motor together.

Some were cast with the script, some were not.

Nor does my '97. I was kinda dissapointed when I realised it wasn't there. I think it looks pretty cool. Oh well...

This is interesting. I have an early build '97 C2. It does not have the Varioram script, but does have the dreaded '96 DME.

My late build 97 also does not have the Varioram on it. But my friends 96 does.

I would say, some have it, some don't, really it's not anything to get caught up on.

ROW build 06/28/97 has it.
Saw picture of someone 'porting' the inlets, took mine off with a 'port it yourself' attitude...
inlet walls were 2.2mm all along and nothing to port.

If the original poster is asking whether having varioram makes a difference-- whether or not it is stamped on the engire-- the answer is yes.

Cars with it have more boost at higher RPM and pull faster and more smoothly at lower RPM.
