I posed the exact same question to the lead salesman at Belleuve Porsche when I was scouring the west coast for mine. He said exactly this: "No, we very rarely get a 993 through here. Those guys are not interested in trading up for anything else, and can you blame them?"
I don't know if it's the same in the States , but in England and here in Ireland , most 993's are owned outright (no loans or lease agreements) and are second cars , so owners don't feel the need to 'get rid' in order to reduce monthly outgoings. Even more so , they haven't bought their 993 to look good driving a Porsche , they've got one cos they're enthusiasts , these owners understand the value of a good 993 , and won't let it slip thru their fingers unless they're in real bad financial shape .. So it's much more likely you'll see 996's and 997's up for sale before the 'family jewels' have to be brought out
All in my humble opinion of course!

Former Vendor
aircooleds aboard
I've had a host of air cooled, being an aircooled junkie for a lot o fyears. some turbo S's, some 964 flatnoses, a bunch of other stuff. i'd say about 40% of all my cars ended up abroad, iwth the buyers paying big premiums to going rates in the US> I think a lo to f that has quieted down in the last 30 days with the euro pricing, but for a while, european countries were snagging our cars at a huge discount...i think a lo tof the best ones headed that way. 2 of my flatnoses went there.
as far as Ray @ RPM is concerned, i think he made/makes a wise wise move. buyers moan about wilhoits/rpms etc. high prices for the best examples. yet, i think its a very risk business for a dealer to buy a 70k turbo and try to squeeze 4,5,6 grand out of it, after incurring shipping costs and headaches in securing both sides of the deal....so if that premium is going to be pressured or never realized due to har dcore economic strain, then they are best sittin with cash, buying time, stocking up on inventory and just waiting it out.

"Scotch and Soda" is a really good song.
On the MTA song, I like it when Charlie's wife goes down to the Scollay Square station to hand Charlie a sandwhich as the train goes barrelling through. She should have handed him a nickle!
Please return to things 993.
