The 944 relays have a life of 5 years and then are on borrowed time.
My 944 relay lasted 13 years and about 110K miles. But I think I was just lucky ....

When I got my '97 2 yrs ago it had a 944. relay installed, I found nothing to lead me to believe it WASN'T the original relay. However, I thought it was wise to install the new replacement 993 in the car and now I think it will be a wiser move for me to retire that (suspected) 11 YO relay entirely the next time I place a parts order and get a new 993 relay for the spare. They're only $20. JMHO

I wonder how much longer we can drag out a thread on DME relays.....??

Edit: After selling the '97 Cab I purchased a '97 Coupe (AR/Blk) a couple weeks ago. This car too had an old 944. part number DME relay. I swapped out that one for a new replacement and have ordered another spare, so I'll have 1 new spare and the 944 spare.

...I'm guessing a little while longer. I just picked up a spare from Sunset.

I'll keep it going a little longer! My stealer wants $42 for a DME relay and that was a year and a half ago I'm all for supporting the local economy and all that horse**** but c'mon......

Don't want to be a drag......but I had to. Had the first one went out on me this past weekend. Lucky, I was still in the garage. PO had a couple of spares with the 964 part number. Popped one in and started right back up. Went ahead and order another spare one online with the 993 part number for $28.

Bump for the n00bs. (Like me )

(And thanks to the PO for leaving a spare in the glove box for me. )

BTW, does "Sunset" have a website with parts listed, or do you just have to call?

Is this their website?
http://www.sunsetimports.com

Thanks.

That's them, and yes, you have to call. Nothing online. Their deal is they will sell parts at cost +15% as long as you aren't local to them (Portland, OR.). Super nice guys too.

Just got mine in the mail...has a rattle like something came loose in shipping. Performance products sending out new one and even told me not to ship the defective one back! Great Service!
