Default speedline alesio offset help!

Hi,

Just bought a set of speedline alesio RS look wheels for my '95 narrow body 993 (ebay purchase, great deal).

They look awesome but the rears are rubbing on the arches every time I go over a bump

The front wheels are ET46 running 225 40 18 pirelli p zero's

the rears are ET 56 running 285 30 18 pirelli p zero's

I am running RS ride height and suspension spec with PSS9's standard non rolled arches.

The rears rub and it looks like rolling won't help, would switching to 265 35 18's on the rear help or will they just not work on a car with RS suspension set up?

Bill V ran the rears on his car, (it seems from a search) but did he have RS suspension set up?

Help, don't want to sell them again but can't have this level of rubbing on every bump.

Thanks

John S.

Assuming 8 & 10, both of those o/s are aggressive for a lowered car, especially w/ wider than usual tires.

At RoW M030 ride height those wheels were fine w/ 265/30x18 tires, but when lowered to Cup height(24" front 24 3/4"rear) would just kiss the left rear fender lip.

285/30 on 10" ET65 @ 25" height will be ok

According to Adrian Streathers book the original Speedline RS wheel offsets are 52 and 65 mm, front and rear respectively. Your rear offset of 56 mm puts the outer rim of the wheel 9 mm closer to the arch and the problem is further enhanced by using 285 tires instead of 265s.

Does the RS spec change the negative camber significantly?

Yeah, it's pretty well documented here on R'list that the Alesio won't work with 285 rear tires if you're lowered. I think I've even posted a pic of how far out the tires stick.

You'll probably be able to run them on a lowered car with 265 tires. It really depends on how low and how much neg camber though.

You might be able to change the inner hoop to 8.5" and the outer to a 1.25" hoop and eliminate the problem. The 993 RS Speedline wheels run the size hoops I just described above. The standard Speedline size is ET 52 on the fronts and ET 65 on the rears 8 & 10's. Jim
- 285 is what most run on an 11" rear wheel.

I run 275's on an ET58 rear wheel without problems except on the harshest of bumps. This went away when I rolled the fenders. I also seem to recall someone running 285's on ET58 rear wheels. I don't recall his ride height, camber, etc., but that must have been tight. Keep in mind that there is a slight variation between individual cars due to manufacturing tollerances too.

Matt, you are right, your set of Alesio's were 8.5 and 10 and I guess it really depends on how much the car is lowered and there seems to be some variance between cars and how things fit. Jim

Thanks for the help guys, yes the wheels are 8.5 and 10 respectively. I also run Michelin cups on 8 x 10 rears with 285 tyres but on a 65 ET on a MY02 wheel which are just fine (these are my track tyres).

I guess I need to switch to 265 section tyres, roll my fenders and try that. I don't know the exact suspension set up specs as my shop did them, I just asked for "RS" spec for 80% track use and the suspension is great for the track.

On the bright side, they don't half fill the arches and look very aggressive, just need to not drive the car! Or least not over bumps or aggressively - kind of difficult with the suspension and brake mods and the 9M billet head engine!
