Had My Windshield broken at a DE
I just had my windshield cracked (spidered) at a DE today from a guy putting 2 wheels off in front of me. Has anyone ever had an aftermarket shield put in VS factory; cost differential, etc?

I'm not sure you can still get aftermarket windshields. For a while there, they quit making them, so dealers were the only option. Hopefully that has changed... it was $500 versus $1200.

Dave-
Same thing happenned to me, but from a huge chunk of rubber at Daytona. (Note to self: dont follow within a car length at 155mph...) Luckily, in Florida windshield replacement is included in all auto policies. Paid nothing - no questions asked, but the insurance co. was billed $1086.00
Too bad you arent close, mine is actually available - I'm putting lexan in all around.

Same here but I got the after market and its a POS. Luckily it too is has a 12" crack running across it so this time I'll insist on a factory piece.

I found that my insurance changed $22/year when I went from a high deductible for comprehensive (includes glass) coverage down to $100. Doing 35 - 40 track days/year, I go through a windshield every 12 - 18 months. Comp. claims don't show up on my insurance history.
I haven't seen the after market glass for a few years.

The guy who did the Venturshield on my C4S can also do windshield skins for around $500. When I start to track the C4S, I'll have him put it on.
Really when you track, expect to put a new windshield on every few years, they really get pitted fast! The worst is when they don't crack at all, but when the sun hits it, you can't see through all the pits!

Two years ago I had the windshield replaced and they used OEM glass, $760. Last month I had the same guys replace the glass again after a rock break. The glass plus install was $1244. The guy took a week looking all over the US for a less expensive windshield and there wasn't any. Too bad my salary hasn't kept up with that!

Thanks for the info....
Then news got worse, I didn't realize until I got back to the track that my headlight was smashed too...
