I just had my windshield replaced by my insurance company. I asked them for OEM, they said no at first, but then I convinced them. Total cost including new seal and labor: $1,390.

I suffered the same fate at the same DE. Looks like Dave and I will be at the dealer for new glass. I will call around to see if they farm it out or perform the replacment in-house. Bumper cover took a beating as well. A least the weather was great. My C student had massive brake failure coming into 10a late Sunday. So many parts failed it is hard to tell what broke first. Crystalized pads, caliper broke free of the car, tire down, wheel split....safely went into the gravel & on the grass where the brake fluid promptly started on fire...corner worker extinquished.

Great to meet you this weekend. I'm not surprised if your windshield popped in the same location. (in the esses)
I left Sunday around 3:00 since I had signed off my Student to Solo. Glad to here everyone was OK with your brake failure. Good thing the car kept going straight in 10a. The brake zone there has walls on both sides. I'm sure for you as a passenger it was even worse not being in control.

I got this answer on a windshield inquiry:
"keep in mind that 93 winshields are sorted by vin#, due to diferent measurements also you can get in a leaking problem if not done acordingly.."
Any truth to this?
I thought the only things I needed to be aware was the updated seal
And if I wanted a windshield w/ or w/o the upper tint.

The cost is exactly why I don't drive my 993 in DE's and only just instruct now.....back quite a few years ago I had a 79SC that I ran in the whole seasonDE's and broke three windshields in one season just in the parking lot of Qualcomm Stadium, but back then the aftermarket glass windshields for SC's were only $110.00ea if you installed them yourself.

I lowered my State Farm glass coverage deductible to $100, which cost me all of $20/year in additional premiums (was $1000 deductible like my Collision coverage)...and, glass claims don't effect your future rates with them. I have replaced a windshield every 6 to 18 months for years now (993s and 964s), with no questions from them.

Yup, paid $1,200 for a new front windshield almost two years ago. It HAS to be done right (see other threads for badly installed windshields causing 'whistling noises' at speed, water leaks and gaskets that 'fold in on themselves').
I also used autohausaz for two new headlight lenses ...a VERY good deal, IMHO.

I don't know if this was posted already, but BufordTJ did a pictorial when he changed out his broken windshield on here somewhere. PM him and have him send you the link. He had it done at his house. I don't believe it was that difficult. IMO

I just had mine replaced but it is very tricky to align the windshield correctly. My alignment is off 2-3 mm on the right side which leads to the new rubber seal going into the gap. I went to the Porsche dealership and they will re-do the job after the new seal has settled a little bit. The new rubber seal must be the challenge because it is stiffer and a little bit smaller. Their glass guy told me that he always tries to use the old seals because of that but mine broke in the process of getting it out.
FYI: You can get the OEM windshield from Sunset for about 680 USD plus shipping. The local dealership charger 1200 ...

I used Safelite.com. Insurance picked up the cost with a $250 deductable. I would reccomend purchasing a new external seal. The installer did a quality job and even hooked up the antenna embeded in the glass. I am not sure if it is aftermarket or not. I can check if you would like to know the specifics.
