I was told to set it to 4.5 on the scale. Seems to work.

Default K-toe?

I recently had my C4S aligned after a ride height adjustment. I mentioned this exotic aspect of the 993's alignment and left a copy of the factory specs including the manual instructions for K-toe adjustment with the car. The shop said no problem and I left, hoping for the best. When I picked up the car I questioned the technician about the kinematic toe. He nodded yes, yes vigorously and indicated he knew all about "dynamic" toe and that it was taken care of. My curiosity about the K-toe scales illicited some mumbling and I didn't press Him further. The car does handle much better than before the service.

Maybe everythings A-OK. But...If I aquire the Autometrics tool, check K-toe and both sides do not measure symetrically and don't read "4.5" as mentioned above for the tool, is it possible to bring K-toe into spec without a complete realignment?

Thanks,

Yup, I ordered one last week to share with my wrench. Unless you're lucky and have an experienced shop nearby, I think you just have to own one of these.

Dead center, interesting.... That's what I've been told by some and what I plan on trying next.

Surely there are some instrucitons with the Autometrics gauge, no?? I'm sure a call to Autometrics would clear this up.

No instructions came with it. It is a knock off of the motorsports tool. When the ride height is low like on the cup cars the "normal" guages don't work so Porsche motorsports came up with this, and autometrics copied it. I think it was up to the teams to set it wherever they liked it. I was told to use 4.5 and my car handles fine.

Another reason to buy a 996, all 996 alignments can be done at any Firestone locations.

Yes, use #5, the middle setting as a target.

That appears to be my problem. The local shop doesn't have the tool. I suspect they lost it in a major fire a number of years ago. The only other option is the dealer.

Well if one person bought it and we all rented it for 1 buck it would pay for itself in know time.
I own half of one already with my wrench.

This has to be the simplest yet informative explanation about KT I've seen. Many posts before had implied that, when the car is lowered, KT need to be adjusted.

Thanks Steve for clearing it up (for me).

My understanding is that if you go below RS height and make camber adjustments, +/- replace your toe control arms, that having KT adjusted is a good idea .
