CDR-220 questions
Hello:
Does a CDR-220 need a code from the dealer to work, or should the current owner supply that?
Do I need to change the face plate to see, and if I don't is it a complete black out or just need to move my head around to see?
Thank you....

If you do a search under CDR-220 in the 993 forum all will be revealed ...contacts, phone #s, downloadable manual, even a good DIY install. I faxed my car registration and driver's lisc. over to my local dealer and they emailed me the code. The new face plate from Becker NA, plus two new ***** for $10, and the whole face of the unit is like new.

However, despite searches, and maybe because I read too many of the search answers, there was no consensus as to whether the code should come from the dealer or the seller/owner should supply it, as both versions of posts exist.
Saw my good friend Mark Wilson (he'd probably say "who?") and his DIY.
Did not know that face plate was only $10....maybe more like $100, as the posts seem to indicate? My question however is whether it is absolutely necessary as there are some RLers who swear they can see well enough without it.

You'll need the correct faceplate (which it sounds like you have) for it to be visible from the driver's seat in your 993 (it's an angle of view thing). As far as the code goes you'll need to get that from the origimal owner of the 220. Porsche NA has the record of the radio that came with your car at delivery which won't help with your new 220. Worst case you can probably get the code from Becker if you give them the serial number on the headunit but you'll have to convince them it isn't stolen first.

Hey Jimhsu ~ I too had bid on that (EBay CDR-220) having dropped out of the auction after it reached my threshold of $68. Hey call me cheap ~
As it has been mentioned, Becker Radio in NJ can supply a face plate more suitable to our 993s easy enough; however it’s more like $100 bucks. (Reverse contrast) And for an additional $249 they offer a B-stock CDR-220 radio complete with a year warranty ~ so at the end off the day (from Becker) it’s in the $350. range.

Stealth993, I have seen the one with traffic pro a while farther back....do you really need 2? Maybe if you wish to unload one let me know....
Harlan, I have never met Mark but came close to buying his Ginger once so communicated with him quite a bit for a while. Then he had a change of heart and kept it, as he is smart to do so....he did tell me about a friend of his in DFW selling a 993 S to you it turns out.....

You can get them still from Becker, & a couple of other places for like $500 new.

Yea, some times I got pinch my self & make sure I'm not dreaming having 2!
The North End, in the Proctor district. Oh, there are a ton of great roads in the area, some down south around Olympia, some out by Mt Rainier, & of course some great logging roads on the Olympic Peninsula.
If you go on any of the PCA tours, you will find some of the great local roads.

I know of a TP for sale, it's not the Porsche one, just the Becker one, $200 plus shipping, it needs a new NAV antenna. Just passing along the info, don't even know the seller.

How is the TrafficPro's operation given that the maps date as far back as 2001; Or at least so says Becker in New Jersey.
Becker NJ has a B-stock (out of box/no documentation) Harmon Kardon TrafficPro at $599, which sounded very retail priced IMHO. I took a pass at the offer given the radios decade old data file maps.
