Happy with purchase!
So as I had posted about 30 days ago, I flew to Phoenix to look at Bill Calvin’s gorgeous 96 C4S. What a wonderful gentleman! He picked me up from the airport, we went to his house, his garage, and there she was! I had flown the 4hour long flight with high expectations, and they were fully met! Then onto the Scottsdale Porsche dealership for the PPI, with a few very minor notations, all was pronounced well! I left with the title, bill of sale, and records, left the cashier’s check with Bill. Transporter picked up the car 2 days later, drove it straight through to Chicago, I got it in 2 days! It was all smooth and all good.
It’s now been 2 weeks, and my appreciation and enjoyment of the car have simply grown!

Great story that ends the same, pretty much, for all of us that get a good, clean car. Why did the PO sell? What led you to buy a 993? How long did you look? Did you get your first color choice? Mods?
Congrats.
Steve

I had owned a 97 993 cab, bought it in 98 with 2300 miles, and then, given some personal changes, sold it it 99 with 3200 miles. Left a void, filled it with a 89 speedster in 2004. Bought that car from original owner with a little over 3000 miles, today it has a little over 8000. Perfect in every way!
However, over the years, and especially in the last couple, every time I see or hear an air cooled Porsche, I experience that lust(!). So how to be sensible about it? First I drove the other options, namely 996 and 997. Left me not breathless. Very composed, I wanted something more visceral. How about a motorcycle? Been there, done that!(BMW R1100RT, BMW R100RS). Wife made several compelling arguments. Tried, and bought a 1973.5 911T Targa. Loved it for it's looks, could never really enjoy driving it enough, plus the clutch was a little too hard, my orthopaedic doctor started rubbing his hands gleefully when he saw me again! Sold the 73.5, to a gentleman from Finland, about 2 years ago.
I have been watching for sale ads for a long time. PCA, ebay, Rennlist, Pelican, etc. I have spoken to some of the sellers. Even flown out a couple of times, returning with check in pocket.
I saw this 96 C4S. It was priced at, or beyond, the top end of what the cars go for. But it was done so right! All my reservations about the stock car had been addressed. The seller was passionate. He loved the car. I understood (is this a sickness) his reason for selling. So I flew out. And returned impatient for the car to arrive.
I have a 3 car garage, with 2 lifts, which essentially makes it a 5 car, though the cars stored on top do take some effort to bring out, so are not driven much, though I do rotate what I put on top. Currently my son's Saab(away to college) and the speedster are on top, my wife's car, my daily driver(S600 Mercedes), and the 96 C4S are at the bottom.
What did the owner do to the car?
