Default just couldn't resist

Some here will know I honored a deal where I sold my car then tried to change my mind a few weeks back? I sold the car. It was the right thing to do.
But I have been looking around and tested a 996TT. Talk about power, but it wasn't me. If it was i would have one in the garage now.
Checked out 997's, 996's, even "looked" at a Cayman, because finding a good 993 is very hard work. In fact, even finding a bad one is hard work.
Anyway, I have been very lucky and found a 96 C4S, man, 40K miles,(70km) midnight blue, grey leather and in very good condition.
PPI is getting done in the morning. I really hope it breezes through.
Needs a few things, frontal spray, engine lid shocks, ahellova good clean and general TLC.
Every year good 993's are getting harder and harder to find. If you are thinking of selling, make sure it's what you really want.
Thats the moral of this story.
Will report back tommorrow.

Hope it works out for you Graham, perfect colour too! I completely agree with thinking twice (or three or four times!) before selling these days. I know myself that my car isn't perfect, but at least I know what's been done and have a fairly good idea of what needs to be done. A new-to-you car just resets the clock. Again, hope everything checks out and remember, POST PICS OF THE NEW BABY!

Good luck. Hope all goes well with the PPI.

What are yoyr impressions of the 4s compared to the 2s.

What is the going rate for a car like that in NZ at the moment. Prices are sky high still in Australia. Still can't believe waht I paid for my 4s last year.

regards

Thanks Tim. I was going to post pics but didn't want to look like a **** if the car is bad. But when it's mine I will.

JimOz. they are still expensive here. Anywhere up to the high 90's. My 2S was sold to an Aussie guy. He might take it back in a few years with him.
What gets me is the rareity of a good 993, any shape, any form.
Cheers

Default PPi results

I'm gutted.
Had the PPI done (this reinforces the importance)

Front pads and rotors,
Clutch,
Front and rear shocks
Rear pads and probably rotors
Deck lid shocks
Engine leak that can't be sorted until the engines out, could be small or big.
Underneath damage from hitting something
Door check strap
A/C resisitor
Rear spoiler thing ripped (whatever that is)
normal service is overdue
Front and rear tyres shagged
All 4 wheels need restoring
Needs front paint, bonnet and gaurds
There was more but only silly things. Boy these guys are thorough and it was the best $300 I have spent.
There are some positives, it goe's well ! It is a C4S and ummmmmm, ummmmmm, ummmmm
Oh yeah, it's a sunroof delete model.
Pissed off but that's the way it goe's.

That is quite a reasonable list. At least it seems the engine is strong. Are you considering making an offer based on the results of the PPI.

If you like the car the PPI did not reveal any deal breakers just ammunition for your negotiations.

Sounds like around $10,000 to get the car perfect. Feel like taking on a project?

Hi,
I think I saw that car on Trade Me and thought it was a bit cheap......the PPI would explain why......it was a NZ new car too wasn't it? How can someone own a car like ours and not look after it?
Sign of the times I guess...just like all the Ferraris around at the moment for sale with a thousand or so kms to run til a major service is due (and aren't they all majors on Ferraris?)
Good luck
Cheers

Another thing to consider....my car has similar (well about 8000 less) kms and I'm due to replace the A-arm bushes. This car probably need the same, or is getting close. Doesn't sound like the previous owner would have done them.
Cheers

993 Man ..same happening here in Sydney ..not many 993's about and all going into the $80k mark if they are worth buying and not have a list of thindgs to fix up ...a 993 TT $160k ..

What's the story with imports form here (Aus) ...may give you a better choice

Took me a year to find a decent ...well looked after with 90,000km ...manual cabrio... a mate in Melbourne found it for me and he helped me when I flew down to test drive and get it through 2 inspections before I bought ..

looks like price are moving up again ...had some guys offer to buy it above what i payed when i had it dyno tested at the PCNSW tech day ...

Its stock ...for now ...looking at some Simmons rims ...love the Conti's on it but may try Michelins next

How hard would it be for you guys to buy a US car and just import it? Is it that difficult or expensive?

Our cars are left hand drive. Theirs are RIGHT hand drive. I guess that says it all. They could always try to get one from England I guess.

That isn't a bad list... as long as the damage underneath isn't a deal breaker.
The big $ items are clutch and suspension. The leak... well, I would have thought they could get some idea on the source. There are only a few common ones.
When clutch is done, leak can be dealth with.
Negotiate!

I've done most of those things to my car in the year since I've had her...
DID IT --- Front pads and rotors,
DID IT --- Clutch,
DID IT --- Rear pads
DID IT --- Deck lid shocks
DID IT --- Door check strap
DID IT --- Front and rear tires
DID IT ---All 4 wheels replaced
NEED TO DO IT -- Needs front paint, bonnet and guards

Plus I've done lots of other goodies like valve cover gaskets, plugs, power steering belt ... the list goes on an on... But it's worth it!

If it was maintained well through it's lifetime up until now, negotiate a great price and go for it!

You guys have to remember we are a little country at the bottom of the world. I believe there were only 14 C4Ss sold here new. Parts are also expensive, and a lot of that cost is associated with freight costs (if you buy from overseas independent suppliers) or the small size of the Porsche market if you buy from dealers.

WRT left hand drive cars....not a practical proposition, as it would have to be converted, unless you owned it overseas for a certain period, and then you can get a LHD import permit....but you can't sell the car for 3 years. Cost kills the proposition of converting to RHD, and then the car is always seen as a conversion with associated lower resale value.

Imports from Japan were popular a while back but prices have gone up since all the good Japanese cars seem to end up going to Russia. In the upper end of the market there is still a lot of suspicion over imports due to a long period of mileage "adjustments" in previous years, and the importing of decidedly "dodgey" vehicles.
