Default Ruf side mirrors

Alvin's car is sooo awesome that I thought I'd borrow a bit of the look. I'd like to mount Ruf mirrors on the side glass of a Cab, but the catalog says coupes only. I phoned Dallas and they are going to check in the Homeland by email. However, I was wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Anyone?

I can't speak to the fitament on a cab, but I want to remind you that adding these mirors requires repainting a LOT lof your car... both doors plus blending the front and rear fenders. I too love the look, but may have skipped it if I had realized the painting aspect up front. FWIW.

You also need to cut your moulding on the door frame to make fit plus drill holes in window frame to make fit properly.

My car needed neither of these modifications. Mine were genuine Ruf parts... are there some other aftermarket units?

Steve,

You beat me to the comment. I second everything you've said. And mine was installed by Ruf at Pfaffenhausen. I trust that they know what they were doing.

Car is already in for a complete re-spray so that's OK. But I can't see an obvious reason they wouldn't fit on a Cab.

If I recall correctly, the mirrors on "Rufus" don't fit to the top of the door. I belive they "sit" on top of the door molding, and I also think they are glued on. Maybe wrong, but that's my recollection. Mine are also Ruf oe units and I needed to cut the molding to get them to fit top of the door and they are attached w/fasteners to the window frame....I believe glue works as well....

I checked in to this mod when my car was at Pfaffenhausen. Marc suggested against it, as the car didn't need painting. That would be the only time they'd recommend it.

At least your car is black. Not a difficult color to match!....but of course if your car is being painted at Ruf..then $$ and more worrisome, time! With black you could at least spot it in, but w/another color more than likely you'd have to blend the front fender and possibly the rear quarter if they shoot the whole door. A lot of work. I was re-painting my car, so no worries on that front.

So, are there two different kinds of mirrors? I don't get why they are fitting so differently on different cars. I'd love to see some pics of the differences.

True ... which is why I'm still considering having it done. Paolo (pmf) had his silver car at RUF the same time as mine. He used these, but then he also had his rain gutters shaved, so there was plenty of paint work going on. I really like these larger models (and there are two you can see on the RUF website) over the smaller, glue to the window ones. I think they'd be more "useful". As I understand it, the smaller one's were developed specifically to get the last few mph necessary to crack the 200 mark.

Small ones are simply 935 style mirrors. And the yes, helped w/top speed. Ruf only ran 1 on the original yellowbird. They work incredibly well as far as seeing. I thought I'd miss the bigger areo mirrors I had, but w/i a day I was used to them. bb you going w/the bigger Ruf areo mirrors or the smaller yellowbird/935 style mirrors?

I was actually thinking of the larger ones. Did you have these first and then switch them for the smaller ones? I met Leon Samonas at a V-max event when I was still living in London. He has the smaller ones on his turboR. Can't remember what's on his RT12. He told me the driver's side one was OK, but that the offside one was virtually useless. Another guy with a BTR that I met at a Goodwood trackday told me the same thing. I should have tried them out then. On one of these trips back to SF I should take ca993twin's offer up and just drive down to Santa Cruz and check them out.

I've got the small ones...When I said "Aero Mirrors" I meant the stock mirrors on the car. I find the mirrors L & R to work just fine.
