OT: Vehicle Profiling
On my way to work this morning, as I turned onto a main street (2 lanes each way), I saw a cop waiting at a stoplight. So I tried to drive "under the radar" as much as I can - keeping a good gap from the car in front of me, following the flow of traffic, not revving the engine, etc. Now I was doing 40 mph in a 30 mph zone, but so was everybody else, including a truck 2 cars ahead of me. So 2 minutes later, the cop caught up with me and hooked at me - he wanted to talk. Asked me if I knew what the speed limit was.... told me I was driving WAY too fast, and I needed to slow down unless I wanted a ticket. Well, if this isn't a case of vehicle profiling, I don't know what is!

Meh, don't sweat it. You didn't get a ticket. I got harassed for "taking off too fast" (never breaking the speed limit) in my Jeep in a local town once. Cop was yelling through is window at me and referred to me as "boy". I was a little riled at that incident, but no ticket.

There should be a chapter in the manual about how you are going to be profiled while driving these cars. The last cop to pull me over said " I would've done the same thing if that was my car",and no ticket to boot. I guess you just have to get used to it.

I get that all the time. I just make eye contact and or nod or wave. They are showing that they are watching you. Or if you are in the San Francisco area, they might want a date.

I would not have been as outraged if I was actually going FAST..... I've had BMWs and another P-car before the 993, but this is the first time being a victim of such blatant profiling. Thanks for the support guys, I'll get over it.

I always add 5 minutes to my commute(15 min usually) if I take the p-car and make sure I stay within 5 mph of the limit regardless of the everyone else passing me. If I'm in my DD(Audi A6) I'm usually 10-15 mph above the speed limit. In other words, with the flow of traffic.

Maybe you were speeding way before you think he saw you? I have had cases where I slowed down because I saw the police car and when I got pulled over the officer told me that he saw me speeding way back. And he was right.

Not this time. I saw him stopped at the stoplight even before I turned onto the street he's on. So I went around the corner slowly and never went faster than 40. Well, technically I was speeding since the limit was 30, but so was everyone else - which is why I thought he was targeting me in a P-car. I guess this explains why Ferrari drivers go even slower....
