Default Got Nav? Finally ready for Garmin Nuvi 200 or TomTom One. Suggestions?

So I notice an ad in Circuit City this week for a TomTom ONE 130 GPS with Turn by Turn Directions for $149. It has the advantage of doing Multiple Destination Routings vs the Garmin Nuvi 200 which doesn't. Do you really need this feature though?! Thoughts on the graphics of the TomTom vs the Garmin?

http://www.tomtom.com/products/produ...tegory=0&Lid=4

My buddy has one in his used Maxima and loves it. I did a search on this 993 forum and found only a few posts with "Garmin" as the keyword - 1 from 2008, the next... from 2004! The older post from 2004 included people that were excited to get $200 off of their $999 Nav unit. It's sweet how prices have come down to the point when any shmoe like me can have cheap Navigation in their non-stock navigation car. I have an antiquated 8 year old Nav unit in my BMW 740i that I love, so these new units must be incredible in comparison. My old unit is adequate in that it gets me there. These new units like the one in my wife's newish Acura RL are worlds better and have cool features I don't even know how to use yet.

I was thinking about the Garmin Nuvi 200

http://www.gpsreview.net/garmin-nuvi-200/

which is about $140 on the net vs something like this TomTom. I don't want the indash unit (the antiquated Traffic Pro for instance) but something small that I can take out and transfer to another car or even walk around with as a pedestrian in another city. I'm guessing the suction cup mount would work nicely on the 993's clock, but is this the best place for it?
(Terry Adams great pic!)
Suction cup on the clock glass. Unmounts easy, accessible for cord to cig lighter.

Southhampton76 posted this pic... but is this too low to be seen easily?

I've heard about the bean bag mount on the dash board but can't find a pic of anyone's 993 with one... Anyone have a pic of theirs in this postion?

If it's put on a suction cup on the windshield to the left of the steering wheel as some have suggested in another post, is it important to remove that suction cup whenever you park the car and wipe down the suction mark so people don't break into your car looking for the Nav? I know that sounds paranoid, but someone at work said they strongly suggested doing this as he didn't and someone saw his suction mark and broke in and ripped off his hidden Nav under his floor mat. Man, what is this world coming to?

How many of you have a portable Nav? They're great, right? I never really considered getting one till learned yesterday that they're so cheap now compared to year ago when they were over $500. If you can pull yourselves away from the Democratic Convention speeches and hoopla, I'd love to have your opinions.

Thanks in advance,
Steve R

Here's the Garmin I have in my car:

I love the location because the light doesn't bother my eyes at night yet I can hear it well and look at it only when I need to. No distractions at all.

I still haven't seen a pic of someone's beanbag mount though. Anyone? After reading all these posts in the above thread, I guess I'm leaning towards the Garmin Nuvi but I'm not sure which model #. I have to have text to speech. Geez, don't they all have that? That's the purpose of having one of these I thought... I don't need Bluetooth or MP3 (what is that stuff anyway in terms of needing it on your Nav? I thought bluetooth was for phones and an MP3 was to play music you download into an Mp3 player?). I'm old school, I know. I still have about 1200 Grateful Dead tapes that I listen to on a regular basis in my garage. Whenever I clean my car, I listen to the tapes. My wife is sick of them and doesn't want to hear them in the house. Kind of glad I have a detached garage now after our recent move. I can blast the music really loud and she never hears it.

But... the TomTom One has Canada included and Hawaii and Alaska... Arghhhh, the tough decisions of life.

I have the Garmin Nuvi 360, and love it. I got the 360 because I use it on my motorcycle and I wanted the Blue Tooth and MP3 functons.

Ilko,
How does it work in that position? I thought they had to be next to a window, an unobstructed view? I've wanted to put one in my dd, but didn't want something on the windshield.

If you look closer you can see that Ilko has a remote antenna on top of the dash.

Garmin Nuvi 200. Easiest to use, cheap, and small (packable.)

Yep, I've wired a $6 eBay antenna on the dash. My Garmin has an aux antenna jack.

Steve,

Get the Garmin Nuvi 200. Actually, a better choice, IMHO, is the 200W, which is what I recently bought, one for me and one for the wife. CompUSA has these on sale for $180 (refurbed ones are $170). The wider screen is nicer to work with than the shortened, square screen.

Beanbag mounts suck. In the Sequoia, my old Garmin 2610 would slide around on the dash like a hockeypuck. Don't get too paranoid about the suction cup mark, unless you're parking in the 'hood. I've had suction cup marks from radar detectors and GPS' for twenty years and have never had a break-in that was the result of someone knowing that I had an electronic device. I almost always take down both the detector and GPS wherever I go, unless I am parked near an area where no one in their right mind would break into a car and/or my shopping foray is very short.

Get a free one here if a cheap one is good enough for you (was for me & it works great).

I've used a Garmin C330 for 3 or 4 years and have been extremely pleased with its accuracy and durability (dropped a few times...). That said, I checked out Mark's new 200W a few months ago and really liked the compact design. If my historic GPS kicks the bucket, I'll stick with Garmin and the 200 (if it's still available).

I bought the Nuvi 270 (Costco) without doing enough research and realized it doesnt speak the street name (rather than it saying "turn left in 200 feet on Jane Street" it says "turn left in 200 feet"). I have since returned the Nuvi 270. Dont care about Europe and Canada maps at this point, which the Nuvi 270 has installed.

Im looking at the 260/260w (no bluetooth) and 360/660 (bluetooth)

The difference between the 360 and 660, if Im not mistaken, is the 660 is widescreen and better screen. The 260/260w being a wider screen. The decision Im trying to make if I want bluetooth--which would send me to the 360 or 660.

I dont know if widescreen is as important.

Too many models!
