I do believe that it is the direction of the future.

Not if it's a $4,000 option.

Do you think someone buying a $100K car worries about a $4K option?

Interesting to see the differences of opinion of those that drove one vs. those that haven't.

I drove one and have to agree that it's VERY intriguing. Some of the other reviews linked in this thread say everything I would say, but I will add 3 things:

1) This is the tranny for track day guys or those that need/want automatics.
2) For weekends cruisers and low mileage garage queens, probably not.
3) For those that think they will miss the foot interaction with a clutch, learn proper left foot braking. That will rock your world.

If you really believe 911 buyers don't care about price of options, then why isn't every 911 sold fully loaded??

You seriously believe that a base 911 without options is a thing of the past? I personally would tend to believe PAG, who only foresee a 50% penetration.

They don't. If they really want PDK, people will pay for it. The reason people don't pick certain options on 997s is because they don't want it. I guess the reason people don't buy the cab version is because its too expensive an option? Hang out in the 997 forum and you'll see some crazy options people choose for their orders.

Isnt the TIP around a $4K option? As far as possible repairs 2 clutch replacements or a new manual gear box would work out to about the same I would think.

Since people don't care what PDK costs, PAG should just charge $40,000 then. They'll get the same number of buyers according to your (incredibly wrong) argument.

Well, I see that you've gone all crazy yourself with your argument. Even if Porsche gave the PDK for free, not everyone would order it. Again $4k wouldn't be a deal breaker most buyers of a 997.
