Default Odd Rattle at shut down...

Car fully warmed up and right at shut off, the final sound is a moderate heavy sounding rattle from what seems to be coming from drivers side tailpipe. I know I'm being very generalized, but maybe the more knowledgeable owners may know if this is normal or something that has come up before.

TIA

Fully depress your clutch while shutting the car off. Is the sound gone? If so, it may just be the dual-mass flywheel letting you know it exists.

+1....Mine started doing that about 9 months before the clutch had to be replaced...New clutch, no rattle.

I've been aware of this subtle 'noise' since I purchased the car - three years and 15,XXX miles ago. Before shutting it down, I always let it idle for 30 sec. or so and then depress the clutch before turning the key. The clutch feel has also remained consistent throughout all this time.

On a related note, I do flush the brake and clutch circuits with Super Blue every year.

+1 here too. Having the same issue with the DMF making racket.

Is this doing any damage? It sounds like the end of the world...

To clarify my post, I didn't mean to imply that the noise indicated the need for a clutch...Just that I started noticing it was getting progressively noisier as my clutch "went away," and that it was resolved when I replaced my clutch.

I had a muffler that had a welded seam crack close to the inlet pipe. I did not find it untill I removed the mufflers to replace my lower valve cover gaskets.
