Default Report from Carmel

Greetings,

I am holed up in the current Mecca of things auto, Carmel California.

On the Way up I inadvertly found a strech of road where I was able to see why racing gas in the 993 is a good thing.

In Carmel yesterday they had a Concours of the Avenues and the cars were stunning. Murias, an Apollo, a bunch of 32 Ford High Boys, Gull Wings and more 50's cars. They had several Messerschmitt cars, probably the most Messerschmitts togeather since WWII

I saw a few pristine 993s on the street and got some compliments on mine.

Dinner last night was at Roys at the Inn at Spanish Bay and pulling out of the parking lot when I pulled in was a red 959.

There must be a rap convention or a meeting of the men with short comingd because the front parking lot was filled with Ferrari's, Vettes, and Lambos. I guess the 993 is not a cool peoples car

Tour de Elegance is tomorrow so I will post more then.

As an asside this place is filled with cars, a Muria just went down the street.

Well I saw Porsche no.1 drive today and stood next to her. An awesome site. Saw a black enzo, Veryron and lots of Lambos.

Fun day.

WOW! I should go next time. I've got a cousin who lives in the Bay Area and her husband likes cars, too. I would trade my 993 for that VW Hebmuller Cabriolet in a heartbeat! Examples in that condition are worth $100k now, and just 10 years ago, you could get one for under $30k...

Quiet day today, lots of cars. I feel like a teenager at the Playboy mansion.

While the Concours is great I'd argue the Historic Races at Laguna Seca are at least as good. On Saturday I saw Bobby Rahal pass 4 cars at once in a Can Am car on the Corkscrew! (sorry, I left the camera home but you can probably watch it on Speed) Walking the pits later I was offered a Margarita by Vic Edelbrock, mixed by him on a gasoline powered blender (I'm not kidding - he was just handing them out to the crowd). I've done the Monterey weekend almost 15 years now and IMHO if you can go to only one event go to the historic races. For those gearheads who have never been to Monterey for the Concours/Historics it's a must do trip at least once in your lifetime. Stay for three days (most hotels have a 3 night minimum anyway) and see as much as you can. You won't regret it.
