I had M1 5W50 and experienced the EXACT same thing. The oil pressure fluctuating near or just above 1.0 seems too low, and was substantiated by those with far more knowledge about these things than me. Hence, when it was time I switched to RedLine 15W50. OP stays at 2.0 when oil is HOT.

No cons to leaving the bad resistor in except that you "may" forget to check your gauges and therefore must rely on manually kicking the fan in to cool the oil. So it's up to you. But anyone driving any 911 should make it a habit of check gauges regularly ...especially an oil-cooled car.

Great tip! Is there an option to have the high speed switch installed AND have the fans automatically kick in just in case someone has a momentary brain lapse and forgets to turn it on?

My resistor still works; I know because it would kick in the fan at just past 9:00. That was loooong ago as I have since then added a high-speed-fan switch. So the answer is yes. Should you decide to replace the resistor, your fan will work as designed, but you always have the option of overriding it when you feel like it, which is what I do. Not to mention that the switch is indispensable in stopped/slow traffic ...my oil temp needle drops like a rock within a minute to 8:00 even in 95+ heat in urban crawl.
