Default C2 Tire Size Choices

I’m about to pull the trigger on new tires for my C2. I’m moving up to 18” wheels. Fronts are 7.5” wide (50 offset) and rears are 10” (65 offset). I’m leaning towards 225/40’s up front and 265/35’s in the rear. I’ve read going with a tire wider then 225 isn’t advisable on a 7.5” wheel, is this true? As for the rears, I don’t want to go with 285’s but what about a 275/35? Why don’t I see this size being used on a C2’s or any 993 for that matter?

Thanks

275 is used on C2s, primarily for track tires (Toyo, Nitto, etc).

235 is pushing it for a 7.5 wheel, but it has been done.

Unless you're going to track the car, 225/265 is a perfectly reasonable setup. If you step up to 275/285 rears, it's better IMO to run 235 up front to balance the grip (reduce understeer).

While it's probably OK, I personally would not put 235s on a 7.5" rim...it's not a safety issue and performance loss would not be noticeable, it's just a personal preference. With either 225 or 235 you are fine with 265-285 on the rear.

FWIW on the fronts at one time or another I have used 225 and 235 on 8"; 225, 235 and 245 on 8.5"; and 245 on 9".

225's and 265's are perfect for street use. Anything more than that and the only noticable difference will be a smaller bank account.

Most if not all 235/40x18 performance tires are recommended for an 8 - 9.5" wheel, 225/40 are recommended for 7.5 -9"

w/ a stock trans 275/3x18 will cause a generally unfavorable gearing hit, 285/30 will cause a generally favorable gearing change, but either will cause more understeer w/o other suspension changes.

I'd use 225/40 & 265/35

How did that wheel set-up turn out? Where those 18" 996 twists that you used? I'm looking at some 996 NB wheels with 50 (front)/65 (rear) offset and wondering if the rears will fit my '95 C2.

The installation went great. I went with 996 18" (50 & 65 offset) black Sport Design wheels. I haven't upgraded (lowered) the suspension yet so I don't know if there will be any issues when I install the H&R springs and Bilstein HD's. From what I've been told, I shouldn't have a problem with the wheel/tire combination.
