No need to ding your head over this...I meant they're both 911s so there's a familiarity in feel. In retrospect, I should've read Mark's sig first. Clearly I was stating the obvious but then again aren't you also? I don't really think anyone here would put the 993 in the same universe as either 3s aside from what I've already pointed out.

In my case it was a 2000 996 to my current 993.
I hated my 996. It was like driving a Lexus (yes, it was a 6-speed), not at all what I was used to Porsche-wise. Before that I had an early 2.5 Boxster which I actually really liked and two RS Americas which were fabulous machines, so I assumed the 996 would be even better...WRONG!
So I sold the 996, got a super clean 3.2 G50 Carrera which to me is the last of the totally involving Porsches. Sold that one to my brother and got the 993 2 1/2 years ago. To me the 993 is the perfect balance of old school edginess and new school civility, as is a 964.
The 993 is most definitely a keeper. However, if finances were not an issue, I'd have a white 997GT3 beside it in the garage!

For the record I was reading the thread because I'm looking for a C4 as a winter car.

If I could only have one Porsche (as a year round daily driver....which I know takes a bit of the romance away), it would be a 997 Targa 4S, no question.
AWD, widebody, all the 'creature comforts', (climate controls, NAV, electronics), the 'hatchback' feature of the 996/997 Targas and the versatility/security of the Targa top.
FWIW, most dealers will only be getting ONE 997 Targa 4S allocation this year, so they will be rather rare (at least as far as 997s go).
Don't get me wrong, I like my wife's 993 Targa, I love my 964 Euro Cup, so I love aircooled M64/GT1 derived Porsches, but again, as a strictly 'daily driver/all season/more GT car than Sportscar that has some functionality/utility'.....997 Targa 4S is hard to beat.
Just my 2 cents from the cheap seats.

No prob. You won't be disappointed with the AWD system. I put snows last winter for the first time and can say that there are few cars, Audis and Subis maybe, that handle better than an C4/S in the snow. Lots of fun to be had.
