As much as I loved the Caymans I drove/considered, going with my 993 wasn't a tough choice. I do think that it takes some work to get a Cayman up to the $100,000 mark... you have to check a LOT of stuff... stuff that I wouldn't pay for.

Great point. Buying Cayman at $60K is buying high. Why not buy one year later from folks who are forced to sell low since it is mass-produced just like its brethren the Boxster? In three years it will be closer to $35K.

That turbo is my ex. Here's the skinny:
I was the third owner and had the car for about a year before selling it to the current owner. When I got it, the car had already been modified (at no small expense) to look like a turbo S and had PSS9s, but was otherwise essentially stock, powertrain-wise. I simply added the 3-spoke steering wheel and modified the odometer (drove it!).
Interestingly, it was a paint-to-sample 96 in Arctic Silver with a Flamenco Red interior, both of which I personally loved. Had I kept it, I was planning to convert it to rwd, add a lwfw/clutch, and do some power mods, but decided to move in another direction.
Seeing it in Excellence is like seeing an ex-girlfriend in Playboy!

And so which car would you rather have? Your ex or the boxster with a roof?

Isn't the driver's seating area in the Cayman bigger than the 993??? I know my 996 front seat area was a LOT bigger than any of the 993's I've been cramming myself into lately...

I can barely fit in a Cayman as well-plus the roof comes down too low for me around the A pillar, making visibility a challenge. I did not feel confortable in it at all.

I'm a big guy at 6'4" and 220# and fit in the Cayman just fine, but a lot of my height is in my legs... I can see longer torso fellows having issues in the Cayman. Visibility is a lot better in the Cayman than the Boxster tho.

both great cars.
to putter around on street: 993TT
to drive on track: cay s
the fact that they both cost 60k each should not be part of the purchase consideration. if you want value, bmw is much better bang for the buck.
