What should a new clutch cost????

that sounds kinda high, i was told 2300ish. with an OK flywheel. $730 for the clutch from pelican + 16hours of labor @ 100/hour.
i would probably source the part from my tech tho, he usually cuts me a deal on parts

Here is my experience:
Parts (clutch kit, flywheel but also main shaft bearing, clutch release fork & shaft, rear main seal, main shaft seal "while you are in there"): about $1,500.00
Labor: 8 hours (my mechanic did not need to drop the engine anymore; lowering it by a few inches is enough, and saves lots of labor time and all fluids).

How hard is it REALLY to do for the average DIY'er??
Mine is shot and needs to be replaced. I can't justify spending the money to have someone do it if I can do it myself with a very mechanically inclined friend.

Just bought a 993 and it's going straight to the shop for a LW flywheel and clutch job (includes slave cylinder replacement), and RMS. Parts (OEM Porsche RS flywheel and Sachs clutch kit) were just shy of 2K and labor for all items mentioned is about $1400.

Henry @ REFINED MOTORSPORT in Etobicoke. I brought all the parts to him (purchased in the US) and he charged me for labor. And for a few extra hours, he replaced the clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder, connecting hose, brake/clutch fluid, performed the 60K miles service, new spark plugs, replaced the valve cover gaskets, replace the pollen filters,... So Henry was happy, and me too!

We just changed my buddies 96 (993 of course); Clutch=$599 and Dual Mass Fly Wheel+Cover=$799
While the engine is out of the car replace:
-Power Pump Steering Belt
-Spark Plugs

Not bad at all if you know which end is the wrench and have a good lift. I did this over the winter and it turned out just fine. I did have to drop the motor, but I got to do more while your in there stuff.

My mechanic told me that by lowering the engine a few inches vs dropping the engine, he "does not need to drain/replace the fluids and unplug/reconnect all the wiring", or something along these lines. He reckons it saves him a good 6 hours of labor
