I wouldn't be so quick to sell my car for the "Euro" premium, which probably amounts to an extra $10,000 over what it would otherwise be worth.

What would I do if I sold it? I might consider a new 997, but the $10,000 I just made will be lost in depreciation on the new car in a matter of months. Plus (and more importantly), one can always buy a "new" model...But they aren't making 993's any more. And, to me, the 993 is a more interesting car to keep for the long haul for the reasons we all know well (last of the air-cooled, looks, sound, link to the past...etc. etc.)

Now, if I could get say twice what it is worth domestically, that might be another story, but I don't think the market is that crazy or the dollar is that weak (yet).

I hope Russia and China do not find out about our 993s. They are the ones with lots of $ now.

I asked in China at a small dealership the cost of a Cayman. The answer: 1,000,000 yuan. That's
about $US150,000. THis is a base Cayman. There wasn't anyone there to ask about a 993 and I
don't know if they'd even know what it is. Maybe it would be Y1,000,000, maybe Y2,000,000, maybe
they'd give you $50. That market is very driven by perception as opposed to value.

I have to add that it looks quite complicate to export the car with the customs in Usa and pay taxes here..That make me stop with that transaction. Finally i m going to pay the same here, for the same car!..So, don't worry guys.
But the dolar is weak that's for sure!.

Richard, is that your 993 in your avatar? Details on car and arrival would be great. Pics of the 993 back at home would be cool too.

Yes, that is my car I picked it up in Massachusetts. I registered the car in Florida little before I dropped it off to have it shipped so I can drive it here in Germany with Florida tags. I dropped it off beginning of June and the car is supposed to be on the way since yesterday I hope. It is a 1995 C2 blk/blk. What details would you like to know?

Well you know how to get my attention: SPEEDLINES!!! Did you change the overall width as well or just the offsets? What are the widths/offsets as pictured? Any other mods in the pipeline?

Well I had these Wheels for almost 1 ½ years. I wanted to mount them on my Porsche 968 CS blk/blk but it got stolen before I was able to mount them. 225/40 Michelins 8x18 ET47 265/35 Michelins 10x18 ET 47 I had to rebuilt them because some of the Outside and inside rims where damaged so I decided to make the offset to my spec for the 968 CS and they way it looks they should fit the 993 NB with little to no problem. Other modes are Turbo front bumper Euro spec of course, H&R adjustable Nürburgring setup suspension, 996 3-spoke Steering wheel, KM/h Speedo, Euro red tail lights, polished front strut bar, filter sound box, and K&N. Almost everything is ready and waiting for the arrival of the 993.

The VAT and various import taxes, and silly protectionist rules make importing a 993 to China or even Taiwan very a low ROI proposition. Although I do see 993's from time to time in Taipei....if i'm not mistaken, Taiwan wont allow you to import ANY car older than 15 yrs old to the Country.

Such cars in China however are usually obtained from the black market, and won't have a clean title. Not that it matters anyway, I rode a Yamaha R1 with no title during my two years in Beijing, and 100RMB to the officers was usually enough to fix the issue "temporarily". (Sport bikes in Beijing are frequently stolen from HK and transported North.)

China is crazy about Buicks right now, which is so weird. Hong Kong is obviously another story. They have the most Rolls Royces per capita. I love that city--can't wait to visit my family there again!

As for OEM RS Speedlines, I bought a set for my new-to-me 993, and they are being refurbished. Can't wait to get them!

Andreas,

Are you saying a 993 that sells for USD40,000 in the US sells for
25,000 euros in Switzerland ? Or 40,000 euros? I think it's probably north
of 40,000 euros.
