Coolest Riviera blue 993 in existence

Bummer big time. Although I absolutely loved the houndstooth. Any chance it's being parted out somewhere or you'll divulge your source for the houndstooth material?

Three Wheelin'
sorry to hear about the car being totaled, hopefully no one was hurt as well.
Is there any recent pics of the car by chance, we can never get enough of Rivi Blue pics around here.

IMHO, you made a beautiful 993 even more brilliant by adding houndstooth

The Houndstooth door panels weren't sold with the car... ;-) they are hiding and may re-emerge at a later date on another car!
Anyone can build this set up. I found the fabric by simply doing a search online for "wool houndstooth fabric"... and asking for swatches from a few vendors until I found the swatch I liked... then I ordered four or five yards. I bought some door panels off ebay... and the rear bit behind the seats I got at a junkyard... then my upholstery buddy recovered those bits. Easy really.
Good news...
Word today is that the car is gonna be rebuilt... which is nice. Most of the damage is underneath the car... the front suspension was shoved WAY back under the car somehow... It took a HUGE hit but the body itself isn't really that damaged... so the body shop has stated that it can be rebuilt with a donor front chassis grafted in. prob 30 k worth of work... The body shop that has the car is VERY good and has rebuilt a lot of 911's and just brought back another totaled 993... so the patient has a heartbeat!

undercarriage of the car is coming back together.... bent back into correct alignment now... awaiting donor bits to be stitched in. Will always be a salvage title now sadly though. What is so wild... is that it will still be original paint fenders etc... just the bumper and suspension got torn off...

The 993s began production in late 93 and were introduced in Europe as 94 models. A Riviera Blue European example was on the cover of Road & Track and the feature car in mid/late 94. The 993 came to the US in late 94 and through 95 as a 95 model. A total of 24 Riviera Blue examples were imported...17 coupes and 7 cabriolets. I cannot speak for the example with the houndstooth interior but another Riviera coupe with the same gray leather interior and black dash was taken by PCNA to the annual Porche event in 95 as a way of introing the car to the US market. That same car was registered to PCNA and used by them as a press and show vehicle...it appeared at SEMA and in two additional issues of Road and Track. The car was then sold by PCNA as a "brass key or brass hat" to Downtown LA Porsche. In less than a year it had 35,000 miles put on it. The color was fairly intense in its day and that car sat for three months in the showroom without any takers. I saw the car and over a 30 day period I got the dealership and PCNA to lease me the car out of guidelines because of excess miles for the model year. I drove the car home and it was one of the two greatest highs in my life. The car was selected by PCA to be one of fifty cars to represent Porche at the Monterey Historics in 1998...representing the model year 1995. Unfortunately a financial situation turned life upside down for me and I had to sell the car...so it never got to Monterey. Fourteen years later I found a piece of paper with the VIN number on it. I used CarFax to trace it and found it had been owned by the same man for those fourteen years. Through the dealer who serviced it, I found the current owner and gave him the documentation I had on the car from both PCNA and Road & Track. For five minutes the owner was looking to sell but he wanted more than I could afford. And now two years later the same man owns the car...now with 90,000 miles on it. It is the price of the 996s that made it so easy to get back into a Porsche...but I still keep tabs on my old Riviera Blue 993 and maybe one day I'll own it again. It was and still is the best car I have ever owned...on the street and on the track.
