Andreas:

Car looks great, good luck in the Concours on Sunday. If you're in the prep area on Saturday I’ll stop by and have a look, might be able to give you some last minute tips since I’ve done this before and have a pretty good eye and know what the judges are looking for.

Rich,
I appreciate that. My sister lives in town, so I'll do any touch-up work there. I leave in less than 4 hours - hopefully the weather holds for me...

Sure, I would like to be your hero. I'll do my best to misbehave on Sunday.

My FINAL piece of advice *on the morning of the show* is - don't even think of applying any wax or polish that tends to turn/dry into white particulates or white-dust. You will be sorry.

We tend to fall into the "I haven't done enuf" trap and think that we have enuf time to "go once over with a layer of wax" and "that'll be that". WRONGO !!!

Instead, ONLY use a *liquid*-based wax/polish that will merely go on and then wipe off. At worst (in the sun) it might streak -- but no biggie - coz you can just go over that area and make it shine again. If there are any 'left over' wax-dust bits (from an earlier polishing) - the *liquid* wax will tend to 'scoop them up' / 'dissolve' them and save your behind.

Trust me, the sun/daylight will bring out EVERY nit-picking faux-pas there is. You don't need to add to it!

Good luck!

Gerry

Thanks Gerry. I left my house at midnight, drove 7 hours to Charlotte, took an hour nap, and have spent the rest of the day going over the car at a Rennlister's house. At this point, I need to draw a line and realize I'm not a professional Concours participant.... Let's hope the rain holds!

Cracktus - I've got everything lined up for you to wash your junk. Git goin' boy!

RAIN??? NOOOOO !!!!!!!!!

Concours + Rain =

356 East Coast Holiday Concours 2004 Yorktown, Va. Three torrential downpours in three hours. Thunder and lightning included just for the extra thrill. By the time the third storm rumbled though we were all asking who's the one that PO'ed MOther Nature? Whatcha gonna do? We didn't have an rain tray on the car so we had to do something to keep the engine from getting wet. I found a trash bag in our supply bag and we had the "light dusting" towels so we fashioned a little protect for the engine... that and me standing over the lid with an umbrella. I was drenched. It was all about keeping the car dry and not me.... This car ain't no 993. There was about as much water in the car as there was on the street!

Really Really REALLY hope it doesn't rain on y'all!!!

Having been a Concours Judge and detailer, to make money in school, for non Porsche events and gone through the Zone 8 Concours school I think your ride is very very nice. For some judges it is an ego trip to show how much they know so just ignore them. It is all about the journey and Andres, it looks like you had a good journey.

It might help to have a 993 book there to help correct the judges errors.

I will not Concours my car because if somebody complains I will stick a baseball bat up his ***.

Besides I would want to win so I would probably get a real pro to do it.

Let us hope they treat the 356s better than they did in San Diego last year.

There are no dusty, dirt parking areas in downtown Charlotte...!

Shouldn't you get a prize or something from Rennlist? Thanks for the pics.

Default Andreas is a fraud....

I don't know what car Andreas is taking photos of but I saw him and his car at Parade they wouldn't even let him park on the same street with the rest of the concours cars, it was so filthy.......

Seriously, it was beautiful. He did agree to let me see the engine compartment if I promised not to get dirt in it..... so when he opened the deck lid I promptly unzipped my fly.......

I have Photos (of the car, not my fly) I'll post when I get home. Andreas, it was a pleasure talking to you, I never did see how you scored, I'll have to check that out before I leave. My car stayed in the parking garage, I can't compete with these folks in the detail dept.

More from Parade later, more 993's here than I expected. Lots of photos.
