Default Readiness code scanner

Ok, I did the readiness code clearing proces this weekend and now I need a scanner.

I have read many thread about the different models and am totally confused.

I decided on the Actron CP9175, but before ordering I called Actron's tech support and was confused with there answer. They said that this model will NOT work on my car and suggested the Genesis 3870, which I will NOT be buying because it is $1800.00.

I chose the Actron CP9175 because it was about $100, any suggestion on a scanner.

I need to be able to read the readiness codes and hopefully other check engine light error codes

Thanks in advance

AC,

Strange. I have an Actron scanner and I'm pretty sure I've seen the I/M "readiness" codes before but I could be wrong (or I saw them on another car). I can check tonight or tomorrow and let you know.

I used the ACTRON CP1975 last week to help me set my readiness codes after I disconnected my battery.
http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16309

It worked like a charm and it showed me all the 9 readiness codes that needed to be set and which ones were set and which ones were not.

I have an Actron 9135, and it reads and clears the readiness codes just fine.

Will either of the Actron scanner products work on the 1995 993 OBDI software with the OBDII trapezoid type plug?

Maybe the "live" data feature? Option for cables to work with OBD-I cars also?

I dunno, for half the price, the 9175 seems to have all the functions your average weekend mechanic (like me) needs.

Also confirmed that my 9175 reads the I/M readiness codes on my '97 993.

Of course, all the codes were set after only a day of driving (no special patterns or anything). But when I /needed/ to set the codes, was it that easy? Nooooo.....

I have the cp9175. It resets the codes and reads the readiness codes. I believe it is only good on OBDII.

Just to be clear, these readers/scanners will not help you set your readiness codes, they will only clear and read them. They will tell you when they are set. These tools are very handy to have, not only for our 993's but most other cars too.

Correct. They can tell you when , and which of the readiness code are set. This helps so you don't waste time going back to the inspection to see if the codes are set.

Also, I did the whole drive route, rpms, etc that is called for on the 993 with this tool attached to the ODBII port and I could see when the codes were being set. So it stops the guessing process and prevents you from stopping the engine prematurely before the codes are set.

This tool is good for any 1996 and newer vehicle, not just 993's. I have diagnosed many check engine lights on my other cars that come on for trivial stuff such as a loose gas cap, etc.

IMHO, If you have a 96 or newer car, this or any other ODBII scanner/reader is a "most have" tool to have.

Cabrio, I knew you knew what you meant, I just didn't want someone else who was less knowledgeable finding this thread later thinking they could set their codes with the tool.

I am in 100% agreement with your statement above. Do we have one of those smilies for "group hug"?

Ok, I finally got around to checking the readiness codes, now I am totally confused.

I had the system in the I/M mode and I see a OK, INC, and N/A on others; I assume OK means it is ok, bit what about INC and N/A

Thanks in advance for your help
