Ditto, then after I sold it I found out about putting it in 3rd and it would automatically start in 1st.

Last year, after 45 years and probably a million miles of manuals, I had to make a tough decision on transmission for the new TT. I chose the Tip for the following reasons, in order of importance:
1. Medical. Left knee problem from surgery 30 years ago.
2. Driving 80% in urban traffic.
3. In manual mode, I can do faster canyon carving with the Tip. I have seen it done in a 993 Tip.
4. Backup driver for wife and valet parker (yes, there is one place I let them do it).

I love my Tip! Only thing keeping me from 993 TT is the mandatory manual transmission. Yes, Tip must be driven in "manual" mode.

For years all I drove were manual transmissions E30 M3, E34 M5. Two years ago I purchased a 996 Tip and this year I purchased a 993 Tip. If you drive them the way they were designed to be driven selecting your exit gear while braking into a corner they are magnificent. Our club recently did the Tail of the Dragon in NC 318 corners in 11 miles. During a spirited round trip I estimate that I changed gears between 350 to 400 times. My fellow 6 speeders had long since given up and left their rides in 2nd. They were amazed at the performance and that I wasn't punch drunk from all the shifting. After all I explained how much effort does it take to hit a button. Watch the professional road course drivers they all drive various forms of auto clutch transmissions. However all that said the real joy to a tip is that you can drive it all week in traffic not have to wait for those elusive quiet Sundays.

Don't fear the Tip!

Show some understanding. Women have far too many non-driving tasks, including but not limited to talking on their cell phones, primping their hair, admiring themselves in the mirror, applying makeup, yelling at the kids in the back seats, eating a snack and messing with the CD player. Thank heavens most of them don't realize a real sports car has a nasty old clutch to pop. .

If you do it right, you can actually corner faster in a tip than sticky...
