Default Suncoast shift ****

I know a couple Rennlisters have this shift ****. What's the general consensus on it? I remember reading a thread a while back where someone thought it felt cheap.

I want to change the look of the OEM shifter but don't want to take a beating on the price due to the weak dollar (ie., Carnewal).

I cannot comment on the **** quality but if you do buy it, get the Porsche part # and call Sunset Porsche in Oregon. They will be considerably less $$ than Suncoast.

Suncoast will match prices with Sunset. I have this shift **** and love it. I got mine from Gert Carnewal the euro was still only like $1.36... Either way, it's the factory RS shifter.

Chuck, did you install the shifter yourself?

No, it came with my car.

Carnewal has a later model shift **** that I've looked at with interest but I just like the RS too much.

I got it about 2 months ago. It's far lighter then the stock shift know, but the insert is plastic, & it's a little skinny. It took about a week or 2 to get used to it over the stock piece. You do need to completely remove the center console to get the shift boot out.

the shift boot (and shift **** assembly) come out through the top, no need to remove the center console. Probably a DIY somewhere around here... but it is pretty easy.

EDIT: here ya go, see the first part of this DIY off of pcarworkshop: http://www.pcarworkshop.com/index.ph...center_console

Yeah, no need to remove the center console. I had that shifter and thought it felt light, cheap, and just looked out of place in my 993. I remember when it came in the mail, I thought the box was empty. It appears to be all plastic. Anyway, I didn't care for it, sold it on ebay and bit the bullet and bought the MY02 shifter which I like much better...

I tried & tried to get mine out that way, it would not unclip, & I didn't want to tear the shift boot, so on mine, the console had to come out, it's not hard, really only takes 30min.

I must say, that MY02 one looks so much nicer! What does that one go for? Does it fit like the RS one?

Ditto with the MY02 - do tell how much it costs.

Default Part numbers?

Hey guys. How about some part numbers for both the RS and the 02 *****.

I like both compared to the stock unit.

Perhaps price will dictate which one I like better.

Thanks
Ron

993 424 075 30 8YR: RS shift ****

It's nice and light; it's never felt inexpensive to me.

I've got a MY'02 shift **** that I got from Carnewal. on the car for only a couple of months. Replaced it with the one from RUF when I did the upgrade. Just sitting around collecting dust. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM
