I can tell you that new spiders wont help. Maybe the shims AND spiders will help.....but it isnt looking good.

In spite of what people have posted, there is no easy, "just use these parts" solution.

To fix squeal, we need to diagnose exactly what part is vibrating against what other part. I believe that if the pads aren't installed perfectly aligned the edge of the backing plate can vibrate against the caliper. You only get one shot at it, since the spiders can be destroyed trying to reposition them. Maybe grinding a bit off the edges of the backing plate would help, too.

It would be nice to be able to change pads and align them 100% accurately without having to put the caliper on a workbench, but I can't see how.

the squeal is so bad that it is tough to drive in stop and go traffic with the windows and sunroof open.. YIKES.

gets worse when the road / tires / brakes are really hot.

I have been watching this thread for a few weeks.. I guess there is no silver bullet on this problem.

I did not have this issue on my other 993s

All of these squealing problems begs the question, "what did Porsche do wrong?"

Lots of other cheaper cars do not squeal. Lots of aftermarket big brake kits do not squeal. What is the difference here that makes it so difficult to eliminate squeal? Is there something about the rotor? The caliper or caliper hardware? I remember reading that someone had squeal and remedied it by rebuilding the calipers (it was big reds with about 60k on them).

My brakes didn't squeal until I did my own front's (OEM pads and rotors but no spiders). The shop had done the rear's before and no squeal. My question is how many people had the brakes done professionally and still have the squeal? In my case , the squeal happens only at certain speed and pressure on the pedal (coasting to a stop).

I switched to hawk HPS pads now and they squeal. Not to bad, but I need to bed them in better. Hawk says to do some 30 mph stops, but I think you need to double that to get some heat in them.

The other thing I was thinking is a caliper rebuild. I am wondering if anyone has rebuilt their calipers and they got quieter brakes.

When I was searching, I read that a caliper rebuild helped.

I have done more bedding in and my squealing is much better. I am still going to go with stock pads though. Also, Im wanting to trade my big reds for stock brakes and cash if anyone is interested. I need cash for my other project.

Hmm. I wonder if other big brake kits squeal. Maybe a switch from OE Big Reds to stoptec or even brembo would would work. An expensive option though.

I have friends with 993tt's without squeal. I think all you need are stock pads with the spiders.

I have a 964 and it squeels like crazy once it gets hot, and I agree it is embrassing to pull up to a stop light with that nasty sound. I have new rotors and pads and calipers and it still doesnt make a difference.

I found that dragging the brakes for a 1/4 mile or so tio get them hot and then braking hard a few times helped more than a true race pad bed in. I dont know why but it is better.
