Default I hate Brake Squeal!!!!!

Ok, So I have big reds on my 993 and am getting an incredible amount of brake squeal. I have Hawk HPS pads. I have bedded them sufficiently and they were quiet for awhile. Anyway, I have found (Through using the search button...thank you....) that there are the OEM porsche anti squeal pads for about $4 each but Pelican also offers some for $14 for all 8 but they look different. Has anyone tried the pelican ones? I dont care what they cost I just want the squeaking gone. Pelican also has the Wurth spray on stuff. Thanks!!

All I have found are the factory shims and the ones from Pelican as well as the Wurth brand spray. Im curious to hear what works the best so I can get it ordered asap!

try factory textars and factory spyders. On the car I run w/ that combo there is no squeel unless you let the brakes get really dirty

THanks Bill. I want to keep the Hawks since they are pretty new. I am going to order the spiders today from Sunset and buy some anti squeal spray stuff at the local auto parts place. I never had this problem on my old race M3..........until I put big reds on it and I just lived wth it since it wasnt streetable.

+1
I recently went to factory pads (textars) with spiders and the noise problem went away on my turbo. Not sure what was on there prior but they were excessively noisy.

The fastest way to get rid of brake squeal is to buy a beater ford or something and have done. I spent a long time trying to get rid of squeal. Mine is a C2 with regular (black) brakes and the offending pads were Pagid with black backing plates.

It had spiders installed and that didn't help. I tried cleaning everything. No luck. I tried spray on stuff. No help. I tried high temp grease on everything. No help. I finally gave up and used factory pads and brand new spiders. Now the squeal is very faint if at all.

I am sure that there are other options, but, sometimes you trade a little cost for time. You may want to try factory pads without spiders. Then, you can swap in the Hawks for track use (very hard to do with the spiders installed).

Bob

I did the 80mph braking hard to 20mph and repeated that about 7 times and the squeal went away for awhile........but its back but it did work for a few months. Going to give that a shot again next weekend when I have some open space and highway to do it. I have spyders, textar pads, and OEM rotors.

I put Pagid Oranges up front and Blacks in the rear. The squeal during normal street driving was atrocious. I mean, it was B.A.D.! I put the factory anti-squealers back on. No help. Finally, I just broke down and got some factory pads (and used the old anti-squealers) for the street. No more squeal. I use the Pagids strictly on the track now. And since I have to swap wheels/tires for track use anyway, swapping out the pads only adds a few more minutes to the procedure.

I've never had brake squeal with any of my cars( 993,740i,Tahoe) by just shooting the water spray thru the wheels at the calipers and watch the black stream run off. but since you rich guys use detailers, I guess you'll just need some special pads.

Spraying water on my calipers wont eliminate the brake squeal. I wash my cay myself and always clean off the claipers rotors etc. Some cars squeal and some dont. For me it had been that my BMW's dont and the Porsche does. My wifes X5 also has Hawk HPS pads on it and it never squeals.

Theres an idea, hook up a windshield washer res with tubing routed to all 4 calipers controlled by a switch on the dash. presto no more squeal! lol.

I fixed my brake squeal with an Alpine X100 and new Polk Audio speakers.

just shooting the water spray thru the wheels at the calipers
That's what i mean be keeping the caliper/pads clean. Do several stops from a reasonable speed to dry them before putting them away.

W/ Pagid yellow track pads and no spyders the squeel goes away for a reasonable time by doing that. The Textars are much much better w/ that treatment.
