I paid $165 at Automotive Legends. Mike Schatz said he would happily take my money for a compression test if I wanted, but that his inspection didn't show any reason to do so. He was adamant that a leakdown test was for diagnosing a problem, not spotting one. Carry on.

I paid $400 for a very thorough inspection of body mounts, suspension, exhaust, flywheel/belts/pulleys and leak down. This was conducted by ASG in Northern VA in 4/07. The technician also reviewed the entire car with me after he was finished. The car was a 1993 964.

I just checked into PPI's at a few local places in the SF Bay Area. One was $105 and the other was $150 this was without the compression test, the second place was closer to $250 with the compression test. PPI's are worth every penny. When I was doing my original search I got one on a car I was looking at and it turned out to have been in a major accident.
I live in the SF Bay Area as well, and am currently shopping for a 97-98 C2S.

I used Tony & Bros ($105) in Sunnyvale for a PPI and then I checked with Heyer ($150-250) in Mountain View and they will also do them as well. Heyer seemed like they might do a longer PPI and they just do P-cars. So they might be the better choice.

Think mine was $350 at Stoddards in Cleveland about six years ago. Was supposed to be thorough inspection, compression, leakdown, and moving the drivers seat to the back four mounting points.
