More 997's now than 993's
There are now more 997TT including cabs in North America than there are of our 993TT. Considering June sales.
FWIW there are more 997 cars in North America now than there 993's period.
This should bode well for the value of our cars and possibly not so well for the new car buyer.

Porsche is making fantastic cars in their turbo, and GT series, and I think the 993 is really being solidified as the last great 911 now that the later cars are being mass produced.
My friend told me that a local dealer did over 160 engine changes across the newer model line last year.
More cars, more problems? or dare I say quality?

I think the new 997 cars are awesome and seem pretty good quality based on a few of my friends who own them. Followed a 997 wide-body all the way to work this morning. Beautiful Seal Gray with those shiny red brembos showing through the wheels at speed (I'm sorta fixated on the whole red caliper thing as I suffer through refinishing mine!!!)

My own opinion is people "keep" 993 (and other, older air-cooled) models, whereas they only "own" 996/7 models, usually until the warranty or lease is up and then off the new model.
Looking at 993TT prices sort of tells you where things are going.

Besides the fact that I like the look and sound of the 993 better than the 993, there's also something about owning iconic items. With the price of a 997 and the cost of long-term ownership I never see myself "owning" one. Leasing one, maybe, but actually owning it for longer than three years seems like a losing proposition. As enthusiasts, we are probably too consumed with the legacy of the air/oil cooled cars. That being said, I wonder how I'll look at the water pumpers twenty years from now.

Hmmm. Do you suppose that people were once saying that the 993 was too expensive and too refined? That the 964 or 911 were the true Porsches?
Further, won't there be a long line of scavengers like us buying up used 997s when they become more affordable? Seems likely to me.

Truly, I'm not a car guy. Until now, with the 993. I let my subscription to Scientific American run out, and now I read Excellence and all the UK Porsche mags...993's are insanely great.

I wouldn't replace my 993 either.
1. I love it
2. I'd be scared to death about taking a car 3X the price on the track
But I think the 997 are phenomenal cars!
We need to start another top ten list!
