Default Porsche history that even Porsche seems not to know

OK, for all you youngsters that may not know, 356's had 4-cylinder engines.

The guy at Porsche who wrote the email newsletter I received today must not know that bit of trivia............

What a nitwit. In his defense, doesn't anyone proof read these before release? If yes, strike two.

the purists in those days felt that the 912 was closer to a real Porsche than the 911 as it retained the 356 motor.

Our first Porsche was a 68 912, and boy was that a great car, not a lot of power, but really run to drive.

Over on the Pelican forum someone replied:

"Porsche has been living off its legacy for a long time, it would be nice if they actually knew what it was."

LOL!

A very badly made 60th anniversary poster comparing the 997 to the 964 is shown on this thread too...check it out:

I didn't have time to read that thing when I saw it show up earlier today. Too funny! If you think that's bad, turn the clock back 20+ years when PCNA had me do a customer arrive and drive thing when I lived in Phoenix over at Firebird. I'm 25 and have been soaking up "Porsche" (whatever that means) for not quite 10 years at that point. I COULD NOT BELIEVE the lack of history/understanding of the cars/younameit that the PCNA people exhibited. Clueless. Just there to push as many 4 cylinder cars out the door as possible. And almost to a customer, when I asked "why are you here?".........because the 930 was just reintroduced to the US market.

So I guess what I'm saying, is that this is no surprise..........

Sad that they used a doctored 964 - perhaps they were afraid that a 993 would look too good compared to the 997!

That is just to funny! I bet he has no clue that most of them were single cam, & the "Carrera's" were quad cam engines.

Wow. Was that really done intentionally, and from real Porsche folk?

If so, it's hilarious. Imagine that the "modified" 964 is the same size as the 997. Then imagine how small you would have to be to fit in the diver's seat of the 997!
