It's a great car isn't it? They guys that built it give it a great start in life and Angus has continued building on it.

One of the nice features in this car is that there's a "biscuit" built into the roll cage near the suspension points. You can remove the biscuit - leaving a quarter inch gap in the tubing. That essentially disconnects the cage from the suspension.

I had a lengthy phone call with a fellow Rennlister & PCA racer this morning on that very topic. I need to request the new rule book from Susan Shire at PCA. (The one published on the website is apparently not the most current version)

Neat idea with the biscuit in the cage - solves that issue, I am guessing.

Really sorry to go OT, but this is really important information for me and a few other air cooled heads in our part of the world

I have been trying to build a case with the local race authorities here to make a distinction between air cooled and water cooled P-Cars for an upcoming racing series. LBS/hp does not tell the whole story as newer chassis and watercooled engines have an advantage like for like. I am guessing this is why PCA has adopted this methodology, which I find excellent.

So if my understanding is correct, for an aircooled 993TT, they divide weight by a ratio of 210 multiplied by the displacement, whereas a 996TT with the exact same weight will have a multiplier of 230..

2 EXAMPLE:

993TT : 600 HP, 3400 LBS, 3.746 LTRS. => perf. index class = 427 (GT2)
996GT2: 600HP, 3400LBS, 3.746 LTRS. => per. index class = 374 (GT1)

Is the above correct please?

I got slightly different numbers. For the 993TT, 432 is the performance index (GT2) that I calculated using the exact 3.746 displacement that you quoted. For the 996TT, 378 is the PI (GT1. You used 230 for the HP/L; 240 is the actual number that PCA uses.) that I came up with.

PCA has definitely recognized that the newer, water-cooled turbo cars have an advantage over the air-cooled ones. Good luck with your case!

Yeah, I don't think $23,000 is the right price, though. That car looks like it easily needs $12,000 worth of work . . . hood, RF fender, door work, windshield, windshield frame, frame damage, tub damage, oil cooler, front bumper, splitter, grille . . .

Might be a good car for a mechanic or body shop to pick up at that price.

Even if you were to part out the car it's still high for just engine / trans. The suspension is only PSS-9's nothing much. I bet it has some heavy tub / frame damage.

The pale yellow one has been for sale off/on for more than a year. When I first looked at it, the price was $55K. Not sure if he still owns it or sold it to this dealer, but Alex Felton, a very good driver w/ POC was/is the owner of this car. If I was in the market for a track dedicated 993, I certainly consider this one (pending a good PPI).
