Default After market high intesity head lights

Has anyone installed after-market high intensity headlights in their 993's and if so what brands are recommended? The Litronic system Porsche sells is extremely expensive and probably slightly out dated. Thanks

Will do Chuck. I justed wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience - especially since some 993's had electrical problems to start with

You'll find that for $100-$200 you can do this upgrade. Look for a small ballast kit-everything fits inside the headlight bucket. There's a great thread with 'HID' in the title that even shows some install pics and instructions.
Good luck. This is a great upgrade.

Just upgraded the headlights on my Turbo R yesterday. $140 and 30 MINUTES later I testing them on the road. Best upgrade for any price on these cars.

FWIW, I just went with the OEM Litronics kit (from Sunset Imports).
Simple plug and play with no issues with low vs high beam, aiming, etc.

I did this on my white cab a few mos ago...less than $100 and 30 min to install. Great excuse to buy a dremel if you don't have one already

BTW, I did not need the dremel for my latest install. Bulbs fit perfectly without modification.

+2 or 3. Same kit. Did not need dremel either. However, I wasn't able to find that kit when I looked about a month ago. Seller seemed to have different ones, i.e., ballast was not made in Germany.

Edit: Never mind. I found them, H1s with super slim (Germany imported) ballasts.

Is it possible to install these as high beams along with the original litronics ?

Sure. Problem is that they take a few seconds to come up to full brightness, so not great for roads with other cars where you're constantly dipping them. Also, I expect that the life of the ballast is based on the number of times it fires. With high beams, that could be dozens of times on a single drive.

I used a kit from HID-online about 4 years ago (roughly $300 IIRC). An incredible improvement and a fairly simple DIY. I find that there is very little benefit to the factory high-beams compared to the HID "lows". I have never had anyone flash their brights at me or give any indication that the lights were a problem.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Being that there's many product lines, it sounds like as long as the installer and supplier are reputable, these after market lights should be worry free.
