Always informative and entertaining.

I am moving for a year to Lausanne, Switzerland from London.
Hoping to take my 993 carerra with me - so I have a couple of questions.

2) Does anyone know how I can get my car taxed/registered/insured in Switzerland after moving from the UK

3) any other helpful advice

Adrian Streather is your best bet, post a question on the 911 web digest. Adrian is located in Switzerland.

Hi Tito,

Im based in the Zurich area (and im also a ex Uk refugee )and can totally recommend Angelo Pallavicini http://www.pallavicini.ch/

As for registering your car you will need to speak to the local strassenverkempt(sp?) office

Not sure if this breaks any forum rules but i also rec you sign up to www.englishforum.ch - a wealth of info for English apeaking expats in Switzerland, and you will also find info about registering your car in there as well.

Dont forget http://www.porsche-showtime.ch/

See you there !

Hello !
You can service your car in:
- Amag Lausanne, (porsche official dealer)
-the Haberthur garage in St. Sulpice,
-Autocup in Crissier
-Ofski in Orbe(?)
-Gurtnermotorsport in Aclens

all this garages are quite near from Lausanne.

for the insurance i got a very good friend who can help you save $$(send me a mp)

for the plates you got go to the canton auto service in the Blecherette, i can help you for that if you want.

bye

Hi Tito,

Welcome to Lausanne! I moved here from London 5 years ago and love the place to bits.

I would recommend Garage Haberthuer in Saint Sulpice. Olivier is very experienced in matters Porsche, and has taken very good care of my previous 964, and my current 993.

He also does Audi and VW, in case you do liek the Swiss and buy a Quattro for the winter.

Send me a message when you get here, and we can meet up.

Take care,

Jens

hi,

it's a short drive from Lausanne, but I'd give Olivier Spicher, in La Roche, a go as well. Great guy, and completely nuts about porsches (he does porsche, porsche, porsche, and also, porsche). He seems to be especially fond of the aircooled models, but the place (which is extremely unassuming) is usually full of GT3's.

I'd stay away from Amag, moreso for a 993...

there's a local porsche forum called carreraclub - www.carreraclub.ch, which you may want to speak to.

regarding registration, you need to go through the Service des Automobiles et de la Navigation - www.vd.ch/san , i'm not sure if they speak english but any of the mechanics who've been mentionned will certainly be able to help you. If you're only staying a year, you might want to ask how long you can get away with NOT registering it here.

Thanks for all the wealth of information. Sorry again for the late reply as I have been busy organising the move. My life is in 32 boxes and in chaos!

I have landed and am bringing my car back this weekend from London.
Should be a nice drive from London.

Some more questions.

Parking ? I have tried but cannot understand the regulations
I am trying to get to ride a scooter but apparently the only way to do this is to change my licence to a Suisse one. Any advice?
Any heads up on accommodation. I am currently staying in hospital accommodation - which is sparse and far away from the CHUV.

Thanks again.
My email is kabirjt@yahoo.com if anyone in Lausanne wants to meet up.

Tito

Tito

You are lucky to have one of the most knowledgeable Porsche air cooled gurus in the world not very far from you. If you want "known" tuners and builders, I can give you a laundry list, if you want a low key Master in Porsche, here is the address.

http://porschperformance.pagesjaunes.ch/home.aspx

While you are there you might want to ask Pierre who built the RUF Yellowbird
